I am not really the tree hugging type. I believe we have a great impact on our world, but instead of braiding our hair and hugging trees, appealing for a return to the cave-man days, we should move forward and find practical solutions to deal with the negative impact we have.

We are reasonably intelligent. Well, arguably more intelligent that the great apes at least, and we can do a lot with technology to solve our problems.

So I've been chewing on the disposables issue lately. Imagine the mountains of plastic and battery waste being created every day, chilling. Recycling? Rubbish, it's a marketing myth. The amount of recycled material is miniscule in practice.

However, I am not going to save the world so don't hold your breath, it's not a good idea.

The disposable market doesn't present a threat to our business, it's a different market. But a roaring one at the moment. So we've been mulling on whether we should bring our own juices to market as disposables or just sell whatever is out there, the flavour of the day if you will.

    My impressions:

    Pros of disposables:
    Convenience
    Ummm..... :speechless:

    Cons:
Staggeringly high cost. Ignore puffs, it's a stupid and overstated metric. Small puffs, ave puffs, long puffs? And then add at least 30% inflation for marketing claims. The only metric that makes any sense is ml juice.
    A 2ml disposable at 50mg ~ R100
    A 2ml Uwell Neat R230
    30ml 50mg Juice ~R215 100ml 50mg ~R560

Disposable R50/ml. Yea, how's that make you DIY okes feel hey?:D
Pod with 30ml juice R15/ml includes hardware
Pod with 100ml juice R8.50/ml includes hardware, spare pod and coil

Apart from mountains of toxic waste it costs a fortune, and the flavours suck big time TBH. I've tried a range lately just to see. Mostly coolant to make you feel like you are inhaling something. For the convenience of not having to fill the little pod once a day and plug it in to recharge. Not a great convenience isit.

So what am I missing here?

Believe it or not, some people don't want to buy a pod and fill it and charge it when it's flat, they want to buy a device, literally suck the life out of it and then, chuck it. I sit here scratching my head wondering what they do with their kids? Have they already sucked the life out of them? Are they dangling in a bin somewhere?

There is definitely a place for disposables, sometime I work far away from any form of electricity or I go camping way off the grid, disposables are a great way to vape in these situations. But using it as a daily vape is genuinely expensive and very wasteful. I suppose if the kids have been binned the money is available.

Hopefully these people that use it daily will eventually do the math and start looking for cheaper ways to vape and move over to pods, but I doubt it as we are talking about people here, the dumbest and most dangerous creature in the galaxy.

I've been vaping for 3 (or 4?) years and quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of continually refilling the tank, changing coils, recharging batteries and cleaning the mod. It's got so bad that one day I decided that I've had enough. I'm going to stop vaping. That lasted for 5 minutes.

Unfortunately disposables are in fruit flavours, which has never been my favourite profile. However, I've now found a brand (Vozol) which has outstanding flavours - so good that they've (almost) got me off coffee!

More and more young people are using disposables. They don't want mods/pod kits. They don't even want something like Vuse, where only the pod containing juice is disposable. The device still has to be charged. They don't want that. They want something that is 100% disposable.

If we want to know the future of vaping, look at the young people of tday. They are the future.

To me, the pros and cons of disposables are as follows:

    PROS
No need to charge. (and no anxiety attacks about loadshedding!)
No need to fill the tank.
    No need to change coils.
No need to carry a bottle of juice with you when you're out and about.
No need to have a pit-stop to clean.
Lightweight - about the same as a pen, so easy to pop in your bag/pocket.

    CONS
    Environmental impact.
Comparative cost with mods/pods and juice.

I think we could compare Mods & Pods vs. Disposables with hand-rolled vs. commercial cigarettes.

Before the advent of commercial cigarettes, smokers hand-rolled their tobacco.
Before the advent of disposables, vapers used mods/pods and did all the tasks required of them.

Then came commercial cigarettes and that changed the world. Yes, there are still a few die-hards who prefer to roll their own cigs.
And that is how vaping will be. Eventually there will be only a few die-hards who prefer to use mods/pods, but the majority of vapers will use disposables.

Love 'em or hate 'em, disposables are here to stay. Vape shops (B & M) across the country have seen a big decrease in juice sales and a big increase in disposables. This is going to hit the juice-makers hard, but what to do?

Absolutely disagree. We have seen no impact on sales because of disposables. We've had steady growth in line with the previous five years, more in fact.
I'm only considering disposables for the very fact that they do not compete with our juice. It's a different market, but yes, a market with high growth, which is why we are eyeballing it.

Whether it's here to stay is a moot point. The very high wastage in cost and toxic waste will undoubtedly start to trickle into the collective consciousness. It may just be another weapon in the arsenal of the 'Kill Vaping' movement. Waste, kids, the whole shebang.

The fact that we have experienced no real impact may be a pointer to the possibility that it attracts new vapers, read kids. A wet dream to the anti-vaper movement.

Comparing it to cigarettes / RYO is not really fair. The one is bio-degradable the other not, and the batteries are toxic. The cost difference between the former two is also nowhere near the cost diff here.

@YeOldeOke In my post I mentioned "Vape shops (B & M)" - you are an online shop only, and I think that online shops have a different customer base to the B & Ms.

    Good points you raising @YeOldeOke

I think there are many new Vapers that don’t know anything about vaping
They go into a shop and the guy shows them a disposable with 5 different flavours and it’s easy to use and costs whatever it costs. He asks the salesman what are those devices there. Salesman says those are more involved, you need a charger and to buy coils and juices. The customer says ok let me try the basic one first

and many probably continue with it

for me I haven’t found a disposable that comes even remotely close to the pleasure I get on my fleet of rebuildables. So I doubt I will go the disposable route anytime soon. But who knows, if the flavour gets much better and the cost comes down I will definitely get a few to keep in the cave. But probably more for going out or in the car that for “pleasure Vaping” or vaping at the desk

I think we as enthusiasts are a small fraction of what the total Vaping market will be in a few years time.
Don’t think the majority of folk will be keen to change coils and figure out all the nuances of juices.
Pity but I think the big vaping companies will make their disposables available everywhere like cigs. Therefore the non enthusiast vaper will just pick it up from wherever they are
