Furious Flavours is the new house brand available at E Liquid Concentrates

I was sent the range of flavours for review by @Momo121

I read of a rating system, I used a simpler metho = can this flavour instantly be recognised/identified by its flavour/smell alone. Simple enough? Well, some results are surprising!

FF Banana

This is straight up banana runts – no more no less. This is the familiar cloying artificial flavour we have all tasted as kids and at the local Wimpy… There is not a spec of natural banana flavour in sight but the same is true for a Wimpy Banana Milkshake, which they sell millions of a year… This will do the job in sweet fruit based recipes, banana SteriStumpie and perhaps a drop in to a banana nut bread of sorts.

FF Blueberry

Blueberry is a very difficult flavour to describe as people, young and old, taste the same fruit elements differently, i.e.some pick up more acidity from the skin whilst others will only pick up the juicy sweetness of the berry itself.

This blueberry is a wholesome, deep blueberry packed full of the natural earthy nuances found naturally blueberries. It does, however, lack the balance of the astringent spectrum, which would put it on an equal footing against its rivals. The lack of acidity is not necessary a bad thing as it will lend itself beautifully to a sweeter application, ie Blueberry Pie, ice cream, cookie, etc.

If you like a sweet blueberry flavour, this is for you.

FF Cranberry

An authentic cranberry, as with other niche berries, is rather tricky to pull off as the balance between sweet and sour has taken Mother Nature millions of years to perfect, a feat not easily accomplished by men with white coats in a lab.

This is a sweet cranberry flavour, reminiscent of tinned cranberry sauce. This is not an authentic cranberry and itsuses will be suited to adding a sweet cranberryish flavour to fruit and dessert type mixes. The classic apple and cranberry combo may not be amiss here as the sweetness of the cranberry may well offset the tartness of an authentic apple flavour.

FF (Sweet) Cream
3%

I was weary of this one as most creams are utterly disappointing, except for FA Cream Fresh, which I add to most of my recipes, whether it requires cream or not! The website states Cream and the bottle states Sweet Cream so I was unsure of what to expect… The sniff and lick test soon revealed the true nature of this baby…

This is a thick, sweet, whipped cream which will rival any sweet cream on the market! There is a slight waxiness to itwhich is not uncommon in cream based flavours. This almost resembles the canned whipped cream and is deliciously sweet with little vanilla notes. This will work very well in bakeries and as a topping for fruit based recipes, mousse type recipes, milkshakes, etc, etc.

FF Double Chocolate
3%
7 day steep

As so many flavour houses discovered, chocolate is soooo difficult to pull off due to its natural, intrinsic flavour complexities. Most flavours are waxy, cocoa heavy dare I say latex-like.

Although this double chocolate does a good job at being a chocolate, they too, have missed the boat ever so slightly in the authenticity department. This is unmistakeably chocolate and if 10 people tastes it, they will all concur that this is indeed chocolate. If you are looking for an easy, everyday chocolate for use in simple milkshake or bakery recipes – this one is for you!!

FF Fuji Apple
5%

A warm, sweet, ripe red apple flavour which highlights the instantly recognisable apple notes perfectly! This is not a fresh, crisp apple but rather a thick apple sauce. The apple notes, at 5%, are not full/ in your face and I am sure upping the % to about 8% will accomplish that feat. The overall apple is a mild apple flavour with little texture – this is the flesh only, no skin on crispness. I got very little to no tart notes.

Perfect for recipes which calls for sweet, ripe apple – perhaps a smidgen of coolant might tame the warm notes.

FF Juicy Grape
5%
7 day steep

A typical artificial grape candy type flavour, prevalent in most grape flavoured sweets – think grape chewing gum. This is not a fresh grape flavour in the least and will not be suited to a recipe which demands same. This is a sweet and strong flavour and one will have to exercise constraint when mixing as this will overpower a recipe in an instant. I suggest starting at 2% in a recipe and 5% solo.

Not a very complex flavour but is great for adding that familiar candied grape flavour in fruit mixes, milkshakes, etc

FF Juicy Peach
5%
7 day steep

This peach unfortunately suffers the same fate as many other stone fruits in this genre = dusty notes. Dusty is the best way, other than off notes, to explain the taste sensation… This is a very sweet interpretation of a candied peach witch very little peach. Although this smells like peach, it does not taste like peach. The dusty notes overpower any resemblance of fruit at 5%. I lowered and increased the ratio to 3% and 8% to coax something else out of it but, alas, it made precious little difference. I am certain some may find this useful in a fruit mix of sorts but I cannot see myself using this…

FF Lychee
5%
7 day steep

A candied lychee flavour ideal for fruit mixes where complexity and flavour verity is not crucial. This is not a fresh lychee but rather an artificial, floral heavy, sweet, candied lychee. The floral notes translates as rose type aromas, a typical condition of most lychee flavours. The problem is as soon as one detects the rose flavour, it never goes away – similar to the internet memes where “one you see it you can never un-see it”. Again, this smells like lychee but does not taste like lychee. I confirmed this by offering the missus as drag and asked her to identify the flavour…she admitted defeat after 6 puffs…

FF Malay Mango
5%
7 day steep

As mango, and especially Malaysian Mango, is the current flavour of the month, I was very eager to try this one. This is a sweet, full, ripe mango flavour with enough supporting texture to provide that extra authenticity which lacks in many of the mango flavours around. This is instantly identifiable as mango and it lingers on the tongue (and tank) for quite some time. Although the texture is authentic, the flavour is somewhat artificial, but not to the extent for it to be classified as artificial.

I detected a strange, waxy, sensation on the inhale which quickly dissipated. This is a suitable option for the mango lovers and will work very well in most fruit type mixes.

FF Nectarine
5%
7 day steep

As per my notes on Juicy Peach, this Nectarine unfortunately suffers the same fate = dusty…

At 5%, the nectarine flavour is virtually undetectable and overpowered a heavy handed use of sweetener… I bumped this to 8% to see if I could extract any nectarine notes but this attempt yielded no improvement. I struggle to identify the flavour present here and not sure why this is actually called nectarine… It is an artificial candied fruit of sorts with no astringent notes, typically present in nectarine. Not for me thanks…

FF Pomegranate
5%
7 day steep

Pomegranate is a fantastic flavour and can do add that little intrigue to most fruit based recipes. Grenadine does the same for cocktails – it’s in there but you can’t quite put your finger on it. This is what this pomegranate does, albeit more like grenadine as opposed to fresh pomegranate. The first time I tried this, the missus immediately said that it smells like fresh candyfloss being spun – not quite what the makers had in mind I imagine. This is a sweet, candied, Grenadine like pomegranate with no tartness present. This will do the same job in a fruit mix as Grenadine does in a cocktail = impart sweetness and that little something extra…

FF Popcorn
5%
7 day steep

If ever there was a flavour which had no reference to the label, this one wins the Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe and Golden Raspberry…hands down. This is as far removed from popcorn as Steve Hofmeyr is from the EFF. This tastes like creamed corn – a sweet, mushy mess. In addition, there is a weird localised waxy sensation which this brings to the centre of the tongue on the inhale which I found very eerie… This is straight up sweetcorn = not a popped kernel in sight…

FF Strawberry
5%
7 day steep

So, this is what it says on the label = strawberry… This is not a fresh, juicy and crisp strawberry but rather a sweet, candied strawberry. The flavour is reminiscent of the strawberry vibe in strawberry jam = sweet & stewed. This will work well in recipes calling for a sweet strawberry flavour without the need for authentic notes, i.e. strawberry milkshake. The flavour here would be akin to the same flavours found in a roadhouse strawberry milkshake – not very authentic but very familiar and comforting. A fantastic addition to your strawberry arsenal.

FF Vanilla
3%, 5%, 8%
7 day steep

Alas, a vanilla which does not taste or smell like vanilla in any way, shape or form. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be duck, right? Well, although this is labelled vanilla, it is as far removed from vanilla as Madagascar is from Brazil. I tried 3, 5 and 8% but all I got was a sweet juice devoid of any substantive or identifiable flavour. This is a fabulous sweetener though…

FF Watermelon
5%
7 day steep

Watermelon is a very difficult flavour to translate into a vape concentrate as the actual fruit is pretty bland and relies heavily on its texture and state of ripeness. This is a good candied watermelon with glimmers of astringency which quickly dissipates. Both inhale and exhale provide satisfying watermelon flavour but it is gone in an instant. This will work very well as a supporting note but will be completely lost as the main profile. I added a pinch of WS23 and it killed the flavour completely.

Used correctly, this will work wonderfully well in most fruit recipes!

Thanks for the notes, Rudi. I think that, as a natural complement to your Icee line of recipes, you should start a Dusty line. You've had the Pear for ages. With a Peach now entering the fray, the line takes shape... :D
