I have Coil Factor Aliens in a Zeus single that OHMs at 0.2.
I run it on a Pico 75 at between 36W and 40W and is wicked with Vapefly Firebolt cotton (wick and coils were sold to me by different shops).

My first wick lasted just over a week, the second lasted less than a week (granted, I vaped quite a lot more on the second wick). Both wicks burnt completely through in the middle, so that two separate pieces of wick came out of the coil. I did some online browsing and saw that the Firebolt is made for 3mm ID coils (not the mixed pack that has for 2.5 and 3.5 as well), so am I correct in thinking the cotton is too compressed right in the middle? I am thinking that very middle part is essentially so tight, that very little juice gets in and that is why it burns through so quickly?

I like the convenience of the lace style cotton and seeing as these coils are supposed to last 2-4 months each (I am in the 3rd week of the first coil), I may need to rewick quite a number of times before switching to different coils.
Are there any good alternatives to the Firebolt that will fit 2.5mm coils, other than buying the mixed pack that has 7 2.5mm ID threads?

Looking forward (seeing as I still have 17 of the original firebolts left), is the Zeus single an RTA that works well with 3mm builds, or should I keep looking at 2.5mm and just write the bag of cotton off?

TIA.

Why dont you just use the one's you have and pull a piece of cotton off it before you push it through the coil? Ig its made for 3mm, just pull of 1/6 cotton

I use firebolt with 2.5mm ID. So what i do is to split the lace in half... works out perfectly without wasting to much cotton
I will quicky do one and take some pic's..

Once i the split is done, i cut them in half..
So from one lace, i make four... see last pic:number_one: see last pic, is a 2.5mm and there is way enough cotton for it.

If you dont use that little piece with tape, why use firebolt cotton, then you can just use any other?
I dont buy firebolt for the lace, i like the texture of the cotton... easy for me to work with, as flavor is subjective i cannot say will be better on the flavor side, but for me its better and lastly i experience firebolt to keep flavor for longer. ( Bacon Prime i would gooi new wick every day, but firebolt laste me for 2 days before flavor seems to be muted. Again only my take... every one has his own mojo going. ;-)

If you wick too tight then yes you could burn right through the middle.

Also just double check your coil to make sure it doesn’t have hot spots. Don’t just look on the outside look inside the coil for hotspots. Only mentioning it because I used to use the Coil Factor coils but found they would take a few rewick before all the hot spots got worked out.

And the Vapefly Cotton is excellent, still use it and wouldn’t change anytime soon

@Gringo you can give the Firebolt a lot longer than 2 days juice dependent of course. I find Firebolt really comes into its own 4 to 5 days into use and for me the flavour gets better over time. This mainly with clear fruity juice, like in Dvarw MTL I run a 2.5mm Coil @ 0.42 ohm vaping Exclamation for 1 week solid and it still taste great if not better and more rounded.

Vapefly Cotton is is excellent! Busy testing the Fiber ń Cotton brand. Also enjoying this one, love the silky almost synthetic feel this cotton has and it makes such super neat wicks.

My cotton/rayon blend wicks from Wick n Puff always burn through in the middle no matter how tightly I wick or which tank or coils I use.

When I use TFC or Muji in the same setups this never happens before I have to rewick.
