Hi Ecigssa members, In this review i take a look at the Holic MTL RDA from Vapefly. The Holic MTL RDA was supplied for the purpose of this review by Flora from Vapefly.

Introduction

Vapefly have come out with some cracking atty's in their relatively short time as a manufacturer and possibly most known for their Galaxies range. The Holic is their latest offering and yet again is a product with interesting features. The Holic is a MTL RDA and a collaboration between Horick TV (a Japanese reviewer) and Vapefly and has not just one but 3 airflow controls as well as a choice of dual airflow control on the sleeve or air entering the RDA from just one side. At 22.20mm in diameter to 41.7mm in height the Holic is rather large for a single coil MTL RDA but theirs plenty going on inside this gem reducing the chamber down to give every chance of producing great flavour. The deck is raised giving a deep juice well making the Holic also BF friendly if that's how you prefer to vape, let's give the Holic a good look!

Aesthetics

The Holic comes in the new style of Vapefly cardboard packaging which we also saw with the Brunhilde, a beige steampunk style is the best way i can describe it. I received the Stainless Steel version, it's also available in Gun Metal, Black, Gold and Rainbow, all versions come with a Black pre-installed MTL style 510 drip tip. The top of the RDA has a combination of steps, tapering and a fin leading to the drip tip giving it aesthetic character yet no logo in sight which will please many. Just before the main body of the RDA we have a false seam and a ring of studding effect, the rest of the RDA is plain apart from the airflow holes either side. On one side we have a series of 6 holes with the outside holes being the largest and reducing inside to the 2 centre holes which are very small, on the opposite side instead of six holes (2 of each size) we just have a series of three holes (one of each size). On the base of the RDA we have etched branding and safety stamps, the pre-installed 510 pin is Gold plated and protrudes, it's a standard pin but included we also get a BF pin. The machining on the Holic RDA is fantastic and for a MTL RDA which tend to look a bit boring in my opinion the Holic has aesthetic appeal.

It's Various Parts

The Holic has a one piece sleeve so comprises of, MTL style 510 drip tip, sleeve and base/deck section. The Holic comes with a standard pin pre-installed but a BF pin is also included. You get a spare airflow control set that i will talk about later as well as spare o-rings and grub screws. Also included is a T-piece tool, Allen tool, cotton and coils. Although the Holic isn't small for a single coil MTL RDA it's still only 22.20mm in diameter so might look a bit silly on larger devices so a beauty ring is also included to make the RTA look more substantial.

The Airflow

On the outside of the deck we have a airflow inlet each side much like we have seen on many MTL RDA's that feed air underneath the deck, apart from usually it's only one side. On the sleeve we have 6 airflow holes one side with the outer 2 being the same size has the airflow inlets on the deck, the 2 holes to the inside of the outer holes are smaller with the central 2 airflow holes being very small. On the opposite side of the sleeve we have a series of the three different airflow hole sizes but only one set so 3 airflow holes rather than 6.
This gives loads of options as we can have the large hole open either side, the medium size hole open either side or the small size hole open either side. Turning further allows you to have airflow just entering from one side having the choice of the large, medium or small airflow hole.
I have explained how airflow gets underneath the deck and in the centre of the deck as expected we have an airflow outlet directing air underneath your coil and if you prefer this is the only airflow outlet you need operating but we also have airflow outlets on each post section that will direct airflow at the sides of the coils but these are controlled separately to the main airflow control.
On the post sections we have airflow control blocks that are inserted into the post sections and have a flathead style screw head for adjusting. The control blocks have round hollows going through them that can be lined up with the airflow outlet opening giving side airflow. You can turn the control block to close the side airflow or even have the side airflow partially open, using these side airflow controls in conjunction with the main airflow control gives endless MTL configurations allowing the vaper to get the exact airflow they desire.

The Deck and Build

The base section is deep, partly due to the airflow system but the deck is also raised up intentionally to give a very deep well for a MTL RDA to also make it suitable for squonking. The complexity of the RDA is all to do with the already explained airflow, the build on the Holic is actually very easy and straightforward. On the outer sides of the two post sections we have side openings with lips to stop your wire legs popping out. You just slide your wire in from the side and fasten the hex grub screws down from above. In the sides of the deck we have cutout grooves to rest a coiling rod to help keep your coil in position while tightening your legs down although personally i had no issues just using my finger and thumb. Once your legs are tightened in place just snip your access legs and using a coiling rod or fit for purpose tool manoeuvre your coil into the perfect position. From where your coil is fitted to the bottom of the juice well is a decent distance so you need to leave your cotton ends quite long, just took them down into the wells.

My Experience Using The Holic

You get supplied with 2 single round wire coils which are 1.0ohm Ni80 26ga ID 2.5mm. I did two builds, the one pictured with the standard pin which i used for the majority of the time which came out at 0.87ohm, i also did a second build with the BF pin just to see how it worked with the BF pin and that build came out at 0.89ohm. The flavour i got from the Holic is write up there with the best MTL RDA's and it's going to have a lot of people loving it. The airflow is smooth and covers the complete spectrum of MTL draws from as tight as you can get with the Nautilus 2 write through to if you have both side airflow controls fully open and have it set on the dual large airflow holes on the sleeve open you can even get a very restrictive direct lung hit. I like a very loose draw when i MTL and personally had the airflow set on the middle airflow hole both sides on the sleeve and the side airflow outlets fully open which gave me a very airy flavoursome smooth vape, this is a cracking MTL RDA. MTL RDA's don't usually come with BF pins but due to the raised deck which both gives a deep well and means the airflow is high it worked well in BF mode, you just need to remember it's a 22mm RDA so holds less capacity so don't get over zealous when squonking.

Another steller review @Timwis. Vapefly have stuck to their original airflow designed which they have refined even further with this new Holic RDA.

An attractive and highly effect MTL RDA which as you mentioned will suite a diverse number of MTL fans.

Great review @Timwis . I think the flexible allen key might be a good thing.. . It saves the grub screws from stripping.

I just bought this for R160 at Vape King. For this price I had to try my first mtl rda :)
