Hi Ecigssa members, In this review i take a look at the Trough Sub-ohm Tank from Wismec. The Trough Sub-ohm Tank was supplied for the purpose of this review by Mary from Wismec.

Introduction

Wismec have been very quiet so far in 2019 but here we have their new sub-ohm tank, the Trough. The Trough is a large yet in my opinion aesthetically pleasing tank with huge capacity (obviously the TPD version comes with a 2ml straight glass), it comes with a 6.5ml bulge glass and their is also a version available with a stunning looking Quartz 5ml tube which will also be available separately. As well as it's large capacity we also see 3 new WT coils (2 included) which use 30% Wood Pulp and 70% Organic cotton for their wicking material and also feature 360 degree wicking, so nothing new but simply a combination of what has been giving great results and incorporating into their own coils, so let's give the Trough a look!

Aesthetics

The Trough comes in tubular packaging with clear outer plastic and the tank on full show at the top. I received the rainbow version, which comes with a predominately Black Resin 810 drip tip. The colour versions available are Silver, Black, Gold and Rainbow, all come with the same coloured drip tip i received and their are also versions that come with a stunning 5ml quartz tube fitted. The Trough is a big tank despite being 25mm at the very base the airflow control ring protrudes considerably and the diameter around the bulge glass is 30mm. In my opinion the Trough is a nice looking tank and has knurling both top and bottom which has been excellently machined. The knurling is for aesthetics but also is practical giving really good grip when taking the tank apart. The top-cap above the knurling is smooth and tapers to the drip tip, the tank has a slide open fill method and on the top cap we have a groove to indicate where it opens. The airflow control ring has large dual cyclops with stoppers and moving to the base we have etched branding and safety marks. The Gold plated 510 protrudes slightly and i would not recommend using it on a hybrid.

The Trough's Various Parts

The Trough is pretty standard fair when it comes to it's various components. Up top we have a goon fit 810 Resin drip tip which i do like and a good job really. Although the diameter of the opening allows for other Goon style drip tips the hollow is quite shallow so with most of my other 810's i tried they all fitted but also gaped quite noticeably. We then have the top section that comprises of the top-cap and juice port plate, i will cover the top-fill in the next section. We have the base section which has the dual cyclops airflow control ring, the coil screws into the base in the usual manner and also onto the air pipe when the tank gets screwed together. Between the base and top sections we have the glass tube which is sealed and secured both top and bottom with o-rings. I received the standard version that came with a pre-installed 6.5ml bulge glass and also a spare bulge glass, we also have a 5ml Quartz tube available and the TPD version comes fitted with a 2ml glass tube. The tank comes with the WT01 single mesh coil pre-installed, you also receive the WT02 dual mesh coil head. You also receive spare o-rings and a fill port grommet as well as a sample pad of the wicking material used. The sample i received does look like the retail packaging just with a sample sticker on it so i do hope the sample pad of wicking material comes with the retail version, i for one am looking forward to trying it in an RTA.

Top-Fill

The Trough uses a slide open top-fill method which is a popular method due to how quick and simple it is. On the top of the top-cap we can see a little groove which indicates where to push, it slides open with really nice tolerance so not too loose to make it an open by accident candidate, good job! Once slid open we have a fair sized fill port and if you look down the bore of the drip tip we also have a small hole to allow air to escape when filling. The fill port has a self sealing membrane that you need to push your nozzle through, it reseals when you remove your nozzle. For those that are not a fan of the type of fill port that has a membrane maybe the spare grommet would of been better if it came without so people had the choice but that really is being picky which is a sign i'm struggling to find any faults with the tank. The TPD version also has a lock mechanism using a release button like we have seen on many other tanks of late, there is also a standard version with the same mechanism but the one i received came without.

The Coils

There are 3 coils available for the Trough, 2 of which are included. Pre-installed is the WT01 0.35ohm single mesh head with a rating between 30-50W, also included is the WT02 0.2ohm dual mesh head with a rating between 30-70W. Not included but also available is the WT03 0.15ohm triple mesh head rated between 50-90W. The coils use a mixture of 30% Wood Pulp and 70% Organic Cotton for their wicking material and have a 360 degree diversion wicking system.

My Experience Using The Trough

As well as the tank with 2 included coils i was also supplied with the triple mesh 0.15 coil head so i tested all 3 coils. Normally with sub-ohm tanks out of 3 coils there will be one i just don't get on with and a definite favourite but this time i actually liked the vaping experience i got from all 3 coils and picking a favourite isn't as clear cut as usual but i would say i just favoured the 0.2 dual head coil which i found best at 55W. I did expect the Trough to have bags of air but apart from with the single mesh coil which was on the airy side but not as much as i was expecting the other 2 coils gave a more restrictive vape which will suit most vapers. The tank isn't silent but not as loud as a lot of sub-ohm tanks and i found the airflow to be very smooth with all 3 coil heads. When it comes to flavour it's always difficult to rate sub-ohm tanks as they are just not comparable to RDA's and good RTA's but they are much improved since the use of mesh coils. The flavour i got compared with other sub-ohm tanks was well above average especially with the dual coil head and from what i have experienced only the Falcon and Freemax tanks better it. The wicking material i am a fan of and all the tanks out there that use materials like Wood Pulp or Flax Fiber mixed with Cotton seem to have next to no break-in time and good longevity and this seems to be the case with the Trough as it gave cracking flavour from the off and the dual coil which i have used for a while now is giving as good flavour as when i first used it. As mentioned i preferred the dual mesh coil head at 55W, the single mesh i found best at 45W and the triple mesh coil at 75W. After using a few tanks now using Wood Pulp mixed with Cotton for their coils wicking material i find it keeps hold of the liquid much better than just cotton preventing leaking through the airflow slots, like i did with the Falcon and the Fireluke i left the Trough with a full tank of liquid for 48hours and got the same result, no leaking! It's a very good sub-ohm tank.
