Hi Ecigssa members, In this review i take a look at the Pyro V3 RDTA from Vandyvape. The Pyro V3 RDTA was supplied for the purpose of this review by Viktor from Vandyvape.

Introduction

Here we have the latest offering from Vandyvape, the third version of the Pyro RDTA. If a certain product is released that's met favourably the name can be milked with version after version but actually i have no issue with this as long as the product is improved with each release. I reviewed the original Pyro and liked it to the point that because i didn't receive version 2 to review i bought it and here we have V3 and each version has seen an improvement of which was already a very good RDTA. In fact i am really pleased to see this release as not enough RDTA's in my opinion are released compared to other options and since the introduction of including BF pins they have been given a whole new life of their own. The Pyro V3 offers a two part airflow system which is completed when the top-cap is placed in position offering adjustable honeycomb side and bottom airflow which is always lined up. The deck allows for an easy dual or single build and it has much larger wicking ports than is usually the case with RDTA's. We have 2 fill ports on the base of the deck which get sealed when the top-cap is put in place and if using the BF pin we have possibly the best system yet when using a BF pin with an RDTA, the Pyro V3 is well worth of a good look!

Aesthetics

The Pyro V3 RDTA comes in cardboard packaging with viewing window which revealed i had received the Frosted Grey version, the colour options are, Stainless Steel, Matte Black, Rainbow, Gun metal, Gold, Blue and Frosted Grey. Up top we have a rather nice Resin wide bore 810 drip tip which is a Goon fitting so will please most giving them the option of fitting their own. The top-cap(sleeve) has a castle effect design towards the top purely for aesthetic purpose and also is in keeping with previous versions, we then have dual honeycomb airflow in the shape of the letter "T" much the same as what is on the Drop RDA. On one side of the sleeve we have "PYRO" carved into the metal on the vertical and the sleeve also steps to the drip tip. Underneath the top-cap(sleeve) we have the narrow glass section followed by the flat base. The base has an o-ring mid diameter for sealing when squonking and we have all the usual printed branding and safety stamps. The Pyro V3 RDTA comes pre-installed with a Gold plated standard 510 pin and as with previous versions of the Pyro the build quality is very good!

RDTA

RDTA's (Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizers) were as the name suggests originally meant to be drippers with a tank as a reservoir, so rather than getting dry hits if you don't drip often enough the cotton draws juice from the tank.
Although the name RDTA has stuck i personally don't know anyone who actually drips using an RDTA they tend to be treated as top coiler RTA's having the advantage of dripper flavour while drawing juice from a tank and as mentioned the inclusion of a BF pin allows a squonk bottle to become an extension of their capacity.

The PYRO RDTA's Various Parts

Up top we have a Goon fitting Resin wide bore 810 drip tip, then we have the top-cap(sleeve) which has an inner section which is part of the airflow system that spins freely. We have the deck section with central pipe underneath to attach to the flat base, the 2ml capacity glass tube fits between the two secured and sealed with o-rings (a spare glass tube is included). The base section has an o-ring mid diameter so although most recent BF devices i have used don't tend to give seepage between the device's and atty's BF pins this will give a seal preventing e-liquid going on to your device if this does happen. The RDTA comes pre-installed with a standard 510 pin also a BF pin is included. Also included is a coil length cutting tool, Allen key, throw in the bin little blue screwdriver, 510 adaptor, spare screws, o-rings and finally a pair of fused clapton coils with full specs.

Fused Clapton Specs:

Ni80 26ga*2+35ga
ID: 2.8mm
6 wraps
0.33ohms (per coil)
Recommended Wattage 40-55W

The Airflow

This is the standout feature of the Pyro V3 as it has quite a complex airflow system giving honeycomb style airflow to the sides of the coils but also bottom airflow.
What's cool here is the system would make the deck very busy making building a little awkward and leaving nowhere to fill the tank, this is solved by having it in 2 sections with the main system being attached to the inside of the sleeve. When the sleeve is lowered into place the bottom protruding section of the airflow system inside the sleeve slots into position both sides over the fill ports interlocking in place which keeps everything lined up but also seals the ports.
The outer sleeve has "T" shaped honeycomb airflow inlets both sides and when the inner section is locked in place turning the sleeve closes down the airflow or you can even shut the bottom off altogether and just have side airflow while it always stays perfectly lined up.
The horizontal of the "T" gives your side airflow while the vertical feeds a tunnel that goes underneath the deck then comes up through honeycomb outlets underneath the coils. The airflow underneath the coils is like a half pike design and has 8 holes directly underneath the coils and 2 each on both end ramps to give lower side airflow. On the outer "T" airflow inlets we have 12 holes on the horizontal and 6 holes on the vertical giving 18 holes each side in total. Finally when looking inside the sleeve you can see the space left which reveals once fitted a reduced chamber will be created which will help with flavour.

Filling

On the deck we have 2 good size fill ports so air can escape from one while using the other to fill, the tank section capacity according to the specs is 2ml (TPD compliant) but i measured slightly over 3ml (happy days). Personally if a BF pin is included that's how i use an RDTA so once i initially fill it after a build i keep the tank topped up by squonking.
Normally with an RDTA when using a BF pin the liquid goes up through the pin then out a side hole towards the top of the connecting pipe between the base and deck into the tank which works ok but isn't ideal. On the Pyro V3 the liquid goes up the pin into the bottom of the deck section but doesn't enter the deck but gets diverted to the side then down through a hole in the ceiling (the underside of the deck) to fill the tank, this is the best method i have come across to date on an RDTA!

The Deck and Build

With the bulky part of the airflow system being attached to the inside of the top-cap(sleeve) there is really good access to a wide open deck making doing the build easy.
I did a dual build which is how most will use the Pyro V3 but you are limited really room wise to coils with 3.0mm ID or smaller. You can do a single build but i would recommend a minimum of 4.0mm ID to both get full advantage of the airflow system and give enough cotton to poke through the large wicking ports else you could constantly flood the deck.
The way most of the airflow system is on the inside of the sleeve has allowed for a postless style of fitting your coils feeding your leads in from above and tightening the screws from the sides (the screw heads are dual flathead/philips and nice and chunky). I found leads of 6mm just right (would go 7mm for single coil) then simply place your leads in the terminals holding the coil in place while tightening your screws. Once both coils are in place you can use a coiling rod or fit for purpose tool to manoeuvre your coils into the perfect position using the bottom half pike shaped airflow as a guide. If you don't want to rely on the tilt of the tank while vaping to feed your cotton i would advise you leave your cotton ends quite long then simply tuck through the wicking ports just don't let them go right to the bottom of the tank.
If the build sounded anything but easy then that's my fault as doing a build on the Pyro V3 really is a piece of cake!

Cotton ends could of been left a little longer!

My Experience Using The Pyro V3 RDTA

I used the supplied coils and tried the Pyro V3 with both standard and BF pins with the same build which came out to 0.17ohm.
I am struggling to find a con for this RDTA so just to have one am going to be really picky pointing out that when chain vaping after a while the tank gets extremely hot but then that's to be expected.
It's pros all the way for me, the airflow is the smoothest i have experienced with an RDTA and while the honeycomb airflow gives the usual restriction it does give more air than expected so closed the side airflow down slightly for the restriction i like. The flavour i got was impressive and even when experimenting with the bottom airflow closed it still gave above average flavour but after opening the flavour improved further still. I preferred using in BF mode using the squonk bottle as an extension of it's capacity and it worked great this way. When using with the standard pin although as mentioned it holds more than the claimed 2ml of liquid it ploughs through the liquid (should be more efficient if using a single coil) but filling is quick and easy and as having a bigger glass would in my opinion make it too tall i don't consider it worthy of a con.
Having the main section of the airflow system attached to the inside of the sleeve which then detaches from the deck when the sleeve is removed allows for a complex airflow system that delivers and gives a reduced chamber area while still allowing plenty of space to work while building, i also like the way they used this to their advantage to essentially seal the fill ports when fixed together, i just like the way it's been executed a lot. Each Pyro RDTA has been better than the one before so if a V4 is ever released it should be something a bit special as i find it hard to see how V3 can be much improved on, it's a cracking RDTA!

Nice review
Did you leave it sideways for ex 30min with full tank to see if the fill ports are really sealed and not leaking? Like when on mod in your pocket?
I think bf rdta is the best thing there is, but most leak through the fill holes when in the pocket. Vapefly galaxies nailed this problem

It seems fine, at least when i was around town most of the time it was lying loose in my pocket and had no issues, if anything any leakage is more likely to be through the wicking ports (part of the reason why a single build would need larger ID coil) but if plenty of cotton is poked in it would need to be on it's side a good while to cause an issue but even the Vapefly galaxies will leak this way if on it's side too long, that has the advantage of tiny MTL airflow holes! But i can't guarantee if it's on it's side in your trouser pocket for a long period it won't look like you forgot to give it a good shake after going for a Jimmy Riddle, lol!

Thanks. Ok only now noticed how big those wicking ports are, no way this wont leak if you carry around. The vapefly wick holes is so small a 2.5mm coil wick takes some effort to cram it through that holes and to the bottom of tank, when cotton gets wet and expands its so tight you struggle to get out when rewicking, but i have used is now for 6months daily in pocket and not once a single drop leak if wicked like that.
I like the Vapefly, just wish there is a similar single coil rdta with some more oomph and flavour more toward dl and restricted dl, but still leakproof

Yeah, actually with a dual build those wicking holes get crammed full pretty damn well, but with a single coil build yes it's going to allow liquid to escape if it's on it's side.

The review was never going to be a comparison with the galaxies as i class them completely into different categories one being strictly a MTL RDTA and the Pyro strictly DL so even when i say it's the smoothest airflow on an RDTA i'm really comparing it to all the other DL RDTA's i have tried, the Galaxies airflow is also impressively smooth but just too different to compare!

The best design for no leakage with a direct lung RDTA is the Vapefly (Vapefly keep popping up lol) Brunhilde top coiler which basically is an RDTA or should i say the Galaxies and Pyro's are really top coiler's. It has a great leakfree side filling method and the rods help stop liquid coming through the wicking ports. Some people though have wicking issues although i found it to wick fine by just lifting the rods clear of the base surface!

Great review. Can't wait for them to arrive in SA. Any suppliers reading this, I want 2 ASAP please

Bought mine today used the coils that is supplied and man I a very happy vaper now
Been wondering alot about the rdtas and decided to test the pyro v. 3 because I'm 99% a dripper type guy and this gives me the best of both Drip and a tank
Haven't found a rta that's works for me but this does
All thumps up with this device will test it on my squonker when I'm home

Thanks for the review
