Aesthetics and Ergonomics

After opening the normal Eleaf packaging the Silver device and tank lay side by side, there are other colour options for the device but unless you get the Black (which comes with a Black tank) the tank you receive is Silver. The finish is a matt silver with very shiny chrome base, top, USB port surround and fire button. The device is very plain with just a few aesthetic features. The front has Eleaf branding in the centre at the bottom and in the same position on the back is printed "iStick MELO". The top of the device has a spring loaded 510 one side and the other side has a black panel which houses the 0.49 screen and the Chrome +/- keys, this panel and 510 has a chrome surround. The Chrome on the top of the device ventures about 14 mm down the spine where we find the USB port, on the other side of the device towards the top, there is a large vertical pill shaped chrome fire button. The Chrome base of the device has large safety markings and good venting, finally the Melo 4 tank sits flush on the device and does look like it belongs. The device is slightly tall but is very slim with very curved edges making it very comfortable in the hand.

Melo 4 Specs:

Type: D22/D25 (This kit contains D22)
Diameter: 22mm
Height: 52.5mm
E-liquid capacity: 2mll
Weight: 46.8g
Thread type: 510 thread

Melo 4 Overview

The Melo 4 is an easy to use no fuss sub-ohm tank, so it has a lot in common with the iStick Melo it's been paired with. It comes apart and screws back together with no problems at all and the coils screw into the base then screw on to the air pipe as the base is screwed in place. It is a standard 510 drip tip fitting so you can use your favourite 510, it is also top-fill. To fill the tank you just need to push the top-cap and it slides open revealing the fill port, then just push it back in place (this operates at the perfect resistance and is very secure, there is no way the tank will open by accident). The airflow is duel cyclops with stopper which moves very smoothly. When i looked at the two supplied coils i did have concerns whether the Melo 4 is a good option for the iStick Melo as the coils have quite a high wattage rating. The pre-installed EC2 0.3 is rated at 30w - 80w and the EC2 0.5 rated at 30w - 100w but i found the 0.5 best at 40w and despite having a lower rating found the 0.3 best at 45w so the tank works perfectly with the iStick melo. The flavour from both coils was pretty good and gave more than enough cloud for me, i also found it a very smooth vape. I did try both coils at the 60w maximum the device will go and yes an unneeded increase in cloud but the flavour is not as good, so in my opinion the coils are best towards the lower end of their rating. While using the Melo 4 i had no leaking issues.

iStick Melo Specs:

Using the iStick Melo

The Melo is a simple yet fully functional device with wattage and full temp control settings. It is the standard 5 clicks on/off and once on 3 clicks to enter the menu system. The options go in the order of wattage, bypass, temp Ni, temp Ti, temp SS followed by the 3 memory slots. To navigate you use the - and + keys and the fire button to select, that is all there is to it. While in temp control pressing the fire button 4 times allows you to set the wattage and there are other functions with key press combinations. The other functions are pressing the + and - together while the device is off flips the screen, the same while the device is on locks the keys, fire and - is stealth and finally fire and + allows you to set your TCR settings. The device also has ENU which i don't fully understand but seems to be it only allows charging when the ambient temperature allows charging to be efficient. 2 clicks of the fire button allows you to turn ENU on or off. The screen is small but it only displays wattage/temp, battery status, ohms and voltage and everything is clear and sharp.

Performance

The iStick Melo is a simple device that does what it's meant to. It works very well and the Melo 4 was a good option, however this would be a great little device with a MTL tank which it's more suited to having a 60w maximum wattage and only being able to fit up-to a 22mm tank without overhang. The 4400mAh battery gave great life and the Melo also supports 2A charging.

Pros

Good grab and go device
Good entry mod
Very simple to use
Good ergonomics
Great battery life
2A charging
Performs well
Temp control
Melo 4, good low wattage DL tank

Cons

Not suitable for high wattage vapers
Tanks over 22mm will have overhang
Advanced users might want more features

Conclusion

A good, fully functional out and about starter kit allowing the user to have a go at temp control if they wish. As well as for starters if you like to DL at low wattages it makes for a good grab and go device. I personally think the device would be more suited with a MTL tank.

I would once again like to thank Eleaf for supplying the iStick Melo with Melo 4 for the purpose of this review.

@Timwis good review vape bud.as you stated its a more mtl mod so what tank would you suggest we pair it with.
then the battery life should drain over a longer period.
looking to get the icare for the Mrs. today any thoughts for me on that device

Hi Mate, the icare is a good device for someone just coming off cigarettes probably Eleaf and especially Innokin do very good starter devices, may i ask if it's her first device? As far as a tank i would use on the iStick Melo i would use the berserker Mini MTL RTA but if you mean a tank with stock coils i would go Aspire Triton Mini a very underated MTL tank.

hi @Timwis.
no its not her first setup.we both have tried since ego days and reverted to stinkies due to inadequate mods and tanks.we tried again as the years past and I eventually quit by end November last year and jumped in with the cue witch was the next best things to stinkies when I tried it at the kiosk.
then I bought a jomotech 40w.fried it and got a kangertech 50w mod. then she got herself an ijustS and gave it to me by the end of the day.
she says its all a bit too much for her but also like the twisp cue.
the problem with the cue is the nic content for her its a bit too high for her liking but the look and feel she likes a lot.then last week we walked into vapemob for me and she saw the icare on the counter and liked the idea that we can fill it with something that would suit her needs without having a bulky mod to walk around with

@Timwis I would like her to quit smoking she don't smoke much during the day but at night I think she makes up for what she missed during the day.
also I can see her health going down slowly.she can't walk very far without stopping to catch a breath.
me on the other hand is an avid hiker and would like her to join me and the kids on our nature walks

I was only asking because if it was her only device i would be getting 2 so one is always charged. Another option for the iStick Melo despite all these expensive tanks i get to review is the Aspire K1, in UK can get one for about £7 yet the only downside is it's bottom fill but it doesn't leak and you can use triton mini or Nautilus coils with it, gives great flavour and you can fit any 510 drip tip on it.

@tinwis thanks for your responses I appreciate your input

she will be getting two of them.we already viewed last week and she like it although she could not try it as it was just starting a charging phase.
we will pick it up later, but I needed to ask you as I value your views and reviews

the questions on the mod and tanks are for me.I do both the mtl and DL but like the mtl more.the DL I use in between as I used to smoke almost two packs a day if not more so I chain vape on the DL and when I feel the need run to my mtl setups

If you can i would still try and see if she can try it first

Yeah i like a MTL vape but i DL most of the time with just 2mg juice (3mg if shop bought) because i always need to do something with my hands and tend to chain vape.

willdo.thanks alot much appreciated info will let you know how it goes on her vaping journey and also ask you for advice if she needs to upgrade with your permission of course

Thanks for this @Timwis

I am always on the lookout for replacements for my trusty istick50 and istick20 which drive my SubTank Mini and Evod.

This istick Melo you reviewed seems pretty good with 4400 mah built in batt. Seems to have the same batt capacity and approx same dimensions as the old istick50. Where is its screen?

Not interested in the tank but rather the mod. Have gotten extremely good service from my istick50 and 20 over the years and worry that when they give up I won't have anything similar to replace them with.

Also just tagging @BumbleBee here because I know he knows the istick50 and we have chatted about this before.

I did say in the review, it's on the top like with the T-Priv, also the + and - are on top. I don't have those 2 eleaf device's my blast from the past with eleaf are 3 iStick 30W, 2 iStick 100w (basic version without TC) and a bit more recent the iStick 200w

Ok thanks, i didnt read that full paragraph properly where you discussed it.
That does worry me to have a screen and buttons in that position. Any weeping or dribbling from the atty might be problematic. That said, touch wood my Subtank Mini and Evod have been so reliable they dont leak a drop.

The screen is under a fixed shield that looks well sealed i really don't think a tank leaking would cause an issue.
