Reos Updates

Well, things are finally beginning to quiet down here in the States for us. So, I thought I would take a few minutes and update everyone on happenings at Reos.

1. We have finished up moving the office and shop from Rob's house to our new location in Indiana. There were a few hiccups along the way, but everything (mostly) is unpacked and we are back in production mode. Every order placed in the last two weeks has been filled and shipped within one business day.

2. We are continuing to work on overhauling the website to make it easier to pick the Mod body and door color combination of your choice. So far, there has been a great response to being able to pick unusual color combinations without having to wait for them to be available. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
Also, as mentioned on our Facebook page, please feel free to send us pictures of your Mod - we are going to have a Gallery Page on the new website and want to see some of those sexy ones out there. A special shout out to @Rob Fisher for his pictures. I'm envious, and I own the company.

3. Deeming is delayed! With the FDA announcement today, we have another 4+ years to continue to gather hard scientific data showing the benefits of vaping vs. smoking. Hopefully someone in Washington will finally realize what we've advocated for years - that vaping is a much safer than smoking and is a more effective method to help people quit smoking.

4. We've made a change in practice (but not updated on the website yet) that all international orders will be shipped via FedEx or DHL. You just need to indicate your choice in a note with your order. Our default is FedEx though. This change was prompted by the good folks on this forum asking for a better alternative than Post for delivery to S.A.

5. I am planning on monitoring this forum much more heavily now that the move is done. Please feel free to comment (good, bad, or indifferent) about what we can do to make your vaping experience the best possible. You can also give me grief about the fact my country has a lousy rugby team, calls football soccer and has no clue what the rules even are for cricket.

I think that's enough for now. I'm going to go sit on the porch with my SL/LP and enjoy a glass of scotch and see if I can find a porcupine this evening.

I will re-iterate that it is so great to have you and Reosmods here with us.

There are plenty loyal Reonauts here in SA and many of us are proud of our amazing Reos. I can say that if it wasn't for my Reos I got 3 years ago my vaping journey wouldn't have been anywhere close to what it has been. I love the Reo for its simplicity and robustness.

Looking forward to hearing more and wishing you well with the business.

Am taking a toot right now on 18mg Blackbird in my Reo/RM2 over a morning coffee and catch-up on the forum.

@Eric Parlin , this my friend is absolutely beautiful. I think I must spoil myself for Christmas. If , only if you can get us some silver contacts, you are going to manufacture Reo's like never seen before. Technology in the vaping industry is changing as we speak, and I still prefer my trusted Reo's and my other mechanical squonkers, but damn these silver contacts with a VTC5a battery is rocking, especially on low ohm builds. But as I am typing I am busy with my White Reo SL/LP and some Metador. Keep up the good work friend.

Well, I just saw a great discussion going on over in Reoville ( https://www.ecigssa.co.za/reo-p67s.t37548/ ) around the P67's and it made me realize that not everyone is up-to-date on some of the changes from the original builds that have been made. Some of these changes have been in place for months, some are relatively new. Either way, we wanted our customers to be aware of them.

• First, the insert on the P67 has been changed from wood to PEEK, a high heat plastic that is much more resilient than the older inserts.
• Also, the on/off switch has been switched over to a clear plastic from the older black plastic so that it is a bit less obtrusive. Same functionality, just better looking in my opinion.
• Finally, all of the buttons on the P67 now have embedded springs to help make sure the buttons aren't sticking when fired.

The GoldVein color that @Rob Fisher has is a limited edition color and supplies are dwindling fast - three more have gone out the door today alone.

When the P67 came out, I was in a conundrum. Obviously, the shape is different, the top is flat and the fire button on the side, but I resisted getting one. The main reasons were that I was happy with my current atties (RM2 on SP Grands and Nuppin and OL16 on LP). And i didnt want to get more spares and have a whole new format to worry about. I also wasnt mad about that wood insert which i felt wouldnt handle a wash like the normal Reos can.

But with these improvements, I think the P67 is starting to get me more interested. Bear in mind we pay quite a bit more from here to import reliably. So we need to consider these things quite carefully.

I have a couple of questions which will help - and probably help others too

1. What are the main advantages of the P67 from your point of view?
2. Are there any differences in the firing mechanism of the P67 vs the Grand? I mean, voltage drop wise etc? Would you say the P67 fires with more vigour, all else equal?
3. I have all the Grand and Mini spares. What other spares would one need to buy for the P67 that are different?
4. Is the P67 easier, harder or the same to strip and clean as the Grand? Any particular quirks?

Looking forward to investigating this more and thanks again for taking the time to be on here and give us the info directly!

A couple of quick updates on colors, etc.

1. Black Anodized is still in R&D. We've done two runs now, with less than optimal results. We are working closely with a few experts to see what we can do to make a Reo-worthy finish. I'll keep folks on here up to date as we progress.
2. Goldvein as a limited edition is going well. We still have a few left of each style, but numbers are dwindling daily.
3. Other colors. We are toying with a tan/light brown color to add as a permanent color. Also, we are working on getting a few other finish styles available - iridescent and/or patterns in the finish. See below for the pictures of a camouflage pattern and the tan color. The iridescent video needs to get loaded onto our YouTube channel and then I'll update everyone with a link. (I'm not tech-savvy enough to load the video - I'll need help from our resident expert.)

Hi @Silver

1. P67 Main Advantages: Flat top, so better aesthetics with various large atty's. Side button instead of top button. More ergonomic (rounded back edges fit into the natural curve of a hand better)
2. Firing mechanism. When I put a P67 on the voltmeter to check it after a build, the voltage readings are all consistent with the Grands. Maybe .01 volt less of a drop on the P67, on average. But, overall, I'd call it a tie. Some users swear they get a better hit off the P67. Others complain the P67 doesn't hit as well as a Grand. Personally, I can't tell a difference.
3. Due to differences in design with the side fire button, there's not a lot of common components. The springs are about the only common spare. The P67 positive contact, the 510 center post and the button/button cover are all a bit shorter than the Grand. The insert is a different material and shape. There is also a strike plate on the P67, which is not on the Grand.
4. P67 is both easier and hard to clean. It's easier in that the main contact area - the positive contact to the strike plate is all outside of the insert, so you don't have to remove the insert to get to it. It's harder in that you do need to loosen/remove the 510 center post to be able to get to the positive contact and strike plate surfaces that are coming into contact with each other. I can personally take apart and reassemble a Grand quicker than I can a P67, but that's probably from having more practice at it. I thought I should copy this over from ECF discussion board so I can get some of your opinions as well. Discussion came up around a regulated REO.

I am definitely interested in doing a DNA chip Reo. I am in contact with Evolv directly to see how we can work together and turn this idea into a reality. Based on what I am seeing, it will probably take a good 6 months before we have something that we can put on the market.

My current thought would be to use the Grand body style as the starting point and make a couple of modifications as follows:

1. Install a DNA chip in an easy-to-get to location so that it can be swapped out, if necessary.
2. Make the battery chamber sized for a 20700, but backwards compatible for a 18650.
3. Soft silicone bottle as the standard bottle, with an option to swap out for the traditional bottle.

Although I would like to try silver contacts, I can't get them yet. Our positive contact fabricator is willing to help with prototyping a few hundred of them, but we need to wait until the next run of our standard positive contacts to have it be affordable. Otherwise, the silver contacts are going to cost more than the rest of the mod combined. . . So, no silver yet. But, we will make the heavy duty as the standard positive contact on this mod.

Anything else I missed with this newer mod?

I think you are most certainly on the right track @Eric Parlin! Just make sure you are talking about a DNA75C chip because the Replay option that is coming with the next release of the firmware will be a game changer for the Vaping World!

Sounds perfect - I am in! Some waterproofing for the board maybe.

I have never used a regulated squonker before but i would definately be interested in helping a reo be designed to have power regulation with it. The shower function can be placed on hold with the regulated reo.

No dont place your shower routine on hold.
One of the beauties of a Reo is that you can basically just take the battery out and literally throw it in the sink.
This is probably the main reason I changed to mech and specifically Reos.
If a juice dump or a little bit of moisture is going to destroy my mod then I don't want it. Been there, done that.
I will stick with the original. Hopefully they will still be available.
I can understand the predicament @Eric Parlin is in, he is selling a product that has minimum repeat business.
A Reo last forever, so besides for guys like me who like to collect, a normal person will buy "one" and never look back.

Okay you have convinced me. When do we start killing the zombies I am all game for a regulated reo that will be shower proof once the most crucial parts are removed. It might just replace my currect grand that has fone back to the original owner

@Eric Parlin, silver contacts may be a bit of an overkill. It is a regulated mod so the board will basically make it hit harder than any material contact on a pure mech would. It is a totally different mindset. Silver contacts for the current line would be awesome though. Then again, how would that impact the "hot" spring. Also, silver tarnishes, negatively impacting connectivity.

A slip in, slip out sealed PCB module would be awesome. Remove bottle, battery and PCBM and put the body in the washing machine with the dark load! Including a PCB bypass module to allow it to function as a pure mech would also offer users the option to mech or not to mech as they please. Slip out the PCB module and slip in the bypass module. Also, if the board dies, as it will one day, the REO lives on. After all, REO's are eternal and this is a way to go regulated without compromising this key attribute of your brand.

Because REO's are about simplicity and durability, I would not go for a DNA75C though. The ordinary 75 mono screen is more aligned to the REO theme.

Ok, my imagination may be getting the better of me, so I'll stop inflicting it on you now.

As @Rob Fisher suggested, a Reo with the DNA75C is the right track. @Raindance it won't be a good idea to use the DNA75 because it lacks the main feature most people want and that's the new Replay option. I understand that it fits the theme but it's too much to lose. The replay option seems like it will be the next big thing.
