With the new pictures of @Rob Fisher Woodvil, and me getting one yesterday, I have found a lot of talk going on about Wooden Mods, and it's definitely one of my favourite materials, and I have been surfing a bit to find some more info around the History of these devices.
I found a really nice page on the following link, which has a lot of info and pictures of Wood Mods, particularly Box Mods. It's in Italian I think, but Google Translate works well enough on it.
