Hi Ecigssa members, In this review i take a look at the Galaxies MTL RDTA 2ml from Vapefly. The Galaxies MTL RDTA was supplied for the purpose of this review by Flora from Vapefly.

Introduction

The first Vapefly tank i bought was the Vapefly Nicolas which i still use from time to time with the 0.6ohm coil for an airy 23W MTL vape. Since then i have seen them release a couple more tanks, RTA's, RDA'S and even RDTA's and although i haven't used any of them until recently i have followed their products and both seen and read some very favourable reviews yet i don't really hear about Vapefly being talked about much in general, they must be one of the most underrated manufacturers. Lately i have been lucky enough to be sent the Galaxies range of MTL products. After already taking a look at the Galaxies MTL RDA and Galaxies RTA here we have the latest in the range the Galaxies MTL RDTA. As ever with Vapefly MTL products it has a MTL airflow which can be adjusted to tailor to the exact airflow you prefer. It also has a leak proof top-fill system and comes with a BF pin so you can use your squonk bottle as an extension of the RDTA's capacity.

Aesthetics

The Galaxies MTL RDTA came in sample packaging and i received the Stainless version, it's also available in Black, Blue and Rainbow. The RDTA is 22mm in diameter and quite short, so very small for an RDTA. The bottom section is a small glass tube which holds 2ml of liquid, through the glass a central pipe is visible that holds the bottom and top sections together and also has holes near the top for when using the RDTA with the BF pin. Three quarters of the tanks height is the elongated top-cap/sleeve which covers the airflow system and the deck before doming in shape to help with the flavour. The very top of the sleeve has heat-sinking fins which also had a nice aesthetic touch, on top sits a MTL 510 frosted drip tip. The sleeve has 6 airflow holes one side and 3 the other, there is also a constellation design. The base has etched branding and safety stamps, the pre-installed standard Gold plated 510 protrudes nicely. The Galaxies MTL RDTA is a very aesthetically pleasing tank and build quality is top notch.

Galaxies MTL RDTA Specs and Features:

The Airflow

Vapefly have managed to come up with a genuine bottom and side (if you wish) airflow system with the Galaxies MTL RDTA. The bottom of the tank is your glass that holds 2ml of liquid then you have the deck as per normal with an RDTA but it's raised up allowing for an airflow system in-between the glass and deck so the air comes underneath the deck and up through the airflow outlet directly underneath your coil. There is a hole either side below the deck which allows the air to enter, it then comes up through the already mentioned airflow outlet underneath the coil but it also enter underneath both ramp sections which are an extension of your posts. There is a grub screw at an angle in each of these ramps, when these screws are tightened the air is blocked and you just get the already mentioned bottom airflow but undoing the screws introduces side airflow that hits the coil at an angle also skimming the top of your coil giving complete 360 degree coverage. The screws can be undone as far as you wish so you have control of the amount of air you want hitting the sides of the coil in comparison to the bottom airflow. The top-cap has 6 holes one side and 3 holes the other, there is a large hole, medium hole and small hole one side. The opposite side again has a large hole, medium and small hole but then has another small hole followed by another medium hole and finally a second large hole. The airflow combinations this gives you are, large hole open both sides, medium hole open both sides, small hole open both sides or large hole open just one side, medium hole open just one side and finally small hole open just one side. The combinations with outer airflow control and grub screws on the deck allows you to get the exact MTL airflow you desire from a very airy vape to super tight.

The Deck and Build

I have already described the airflow in relation to the deck so i will move on to the build. Your coil legs enter from the side of the posts and i found it very easy to just slot the legs in place and tighten down the grub screws from the top. Once your legs are fixed into position you can use a coiling rod to just manipulate your coil in the perfect position which is helped by the side airflow ramps which act as a guide. Wicking i find a breeze with RDTA's i cut the cotton 1.5cm either side of the coil then just push down through the wick holes so the ends just dangle at the top of the tank. There is also a valve on the deck but i will explain that in the next section.

Vapefly did send me some Firebolt cotton to try which i used to wick the RDTA and i have to say it makes wicking so much easier.

Leakproof top-fill System

Once your build is done and coil primed, it's time to fill the tank. If you are using the Galaxies with the BF pin then there is nothing to stop you simply filling the tank with a few presses of your squonk bottle. There is a pipe in the centre of the tank that goes from the base to the deck with holes just below the deck so you don't squonk onto your build but simply use the squonk bottle as an extension of your capacity topping your tank up when it gets low. If you are using the standard pin or if like me you are using the BF pin but want to start with both a full tank and bottle then the Galaxies MTL RDTA has a leak proof top-fill system. On the deck there is a spring loaded valve, you simply push the nozzle of your juice bottle into the opening at the top of the valve and as you press down the valve opens and the tank fills, when you remove your nozzle the valve shuts.

My Experience using the Galaxies MTL RDTA

Wow sums it up, the airflow works great and those that believe you can't get great flavour from an RDTA have been proved wrong by Vapefly, i love my Berserker Mini but this edges it for flavour and so many airflow options. I used it with the BF pin and i am a fan of the concept of using a squonk bottle as an extension of your capacity as it means you don't need to carry a bottle of juice around with you to top up when out and about.

Conclusion

So much going on, a clever airflow system to give the Galaxies MTL RDTA genuine 360 degree air coverage which can be adjusted from a loose to a very tight draw, a leak proof valve top-fill system and also the capability to be used as a BF tank. We have a popular saying in Britain "Jack of all trades master of none", Vapefly has given that saying the bird and turned it into "Jack of all trades mastered them all".

Thanks @Timwis
Very insightful
Looks like a great MTL option!

I missed this review @Timwis, but got one on the impressions of @incredible_hullk. Since then I bought two more. An incredible little MTL squonk RDTA. I concur with your insights. Highly recommended.

I've got this little bugger in my cart just waiting for my December overtime.

But I have a few questions just to wet my appetite.

How does this perform with fruity menthol flavours? I know RDA's is not really suited for fruity flavours but I love my fruities and I'm not into RTA's.

Secondly, How is the draw when its wide open, compared to the Billet Box Exocet and Dwarv MTL on the largest slot?

Tagging @Andre, might be able to help with the last one.

Cant help you with any of your questions, As Im to new to compare it to other things. But I can tell you, you wont be sorry, this thing is great. Remember there is two screws inside also to adjust airflow more open or restrict,

For me it is great with all flavours, including fruity menthols. It is, after all, a combination of RDA and RTA.
I like a more airy draw for MTL. The biggest airhole are perfect for me to attain same. Very similar to the draw on the BB Exocet, maybe a tad tighter - depending also on the size of your coil. I have no idea which air slots I have in my Dvarws, but again the draw is very similar. As @Jean claude Vaaldamme said above, you can also unscrew the screws on the sides of the channel for more air, but I found it unnecessary.
Biggest advantages for me are: No more guessing when to squonk, less squonking because of the 2 ml tank reservoir, no oversquonking.

Thats the biggest drawcard for me. And it looks good. Sounds like a winner.

Note to self:R T F M ! Big time, had I not read this now it would have been in the jacuzzi tomorrow and for sale on Monday. Adjusted and the flavour fairy paid me a visit, :eusa_dance: heaven arrived on the RSQ. Was getting tired of suctioning myself to my chair while attempting to vape this thing. Trying to vape it caused Vapour lock resulting in the plunger effect. Now it’s a great RDTA, not just a good one..

What is also great is the easy fill of the 2ml tank. Sometimes you in a hurry and no time to fill the squonk bottle, then you can just fill the tank quickly

From where you getting it Vapeking?

If you're searching for black Mr @Silver I'm 99% sure I saw one in the classifieds earlier

No, not searching for black ;-)
I would probably go for a SS one if i decide to go for it

I saw the one in the Classifieds , thanks for thinking of me!

Got mine this morning and been playing with it the whole day.

Unfortunately got a spot of flu so can't judge the flavour, but boy its a tight draw. Didn't realise I was so accustomed to DL vaping. Still it's a very smooth draw. Will just have to get use to it.

But still its a great atty. The benefits of the squonkable RDTA is endless.

@Silver if you are still on the fence, I would say you will like this one.

Remeber that two screws on the deck that you can loosen for better draw. But I loosen them just one 360 turn, otherwise your flavour is gets muted as more air come from sides than from bottom. And big ohms low watts build

All of them are open. The screws was the first thing I checked.

Might play with the driptip as well. Think the driptip is also restricting things a bit.

I read about the art of the restricted lung hit somewhere once. Basicaly you dont want to see how hard and fast you can draw. Low watts and you draw slow and steady, I draw for 4-6 sec. Put a good juice in and get your build and watts right and you will be amazed on the flavour and different notes of the juice you going to taste.

Its like when you smoked, you dont want to do that quick smoke break double clutch draws. You want that draw like when you sit outside alone with a fire, glass of red wine, Kenny G on the Jukebox, and you think of all the girls you loved before.

All sounded good untill you mentioned Kenny G.

And the coil. I like a 2.5 mm contact coil with plain wire, around 1.0 to 1.10 ohms. Vaping at 15 W. Too big a coil also restricts the airflow. I am using the biggest air holes on the cap. Side screw air holes closed.
