Introduction:
As an enhanced vaping product the Nimbus was developed as a two-part family - the Nimbus Tank and the Nimbus AIO. Being more technically involved as it is a ground up development, the AIO could only be launched now. The Tank was released early in October. The focus of the Nimbus project was high-power, dense vapour and great flavour. The Nimbus range uses the same 0.2Ω coil. This triple coil design makes for great, dense vapour production; and can perform in a wide power band, from 35 W up to 75 W.

As our first high-power device, the Nimbus Tank had some unique design goals - one of which was to introduce a new visual cue for our clients to help distinguish it from our ‘Alternative-To-Smoking’ (ATS) and MTL product range. The ‘Direct Inhale’ (DI or Straight to Lung) product segment is a new direction for Twisp, and we are looking to make our mark with these new devices, in conjunction with our new HP Flavours.

In developing these new products we had to set ourselves new goals:
  • Top DI/STL performance.
  • Unique and engaging experience.
  • Visually present a new high-power look while keeping with the sleek design style Twisp is known for.
  • Maintain our standards for premium build quality and reliability.

All these points are important considerations in our effort to not exclude or alienate our current Twisp clients, but to enhance their Vaping journey. While we provide an alternative to smoking, we also appreciate the popularity of STL products and needed to work on a product range that could satisfy existing customers as well as our new and returning ones.

Nimbus Design:

Airflow:
The Nimbus Tank and the Nimbus AIO both have the same free-flow cyclops vent slot. Normally our MTL airflow control would incorporate a series of baffles or pathways to decrease airflow. With STL you require larger volumes of airflow to help cool down the lower resistance coils, and to transport a larger volume of vapour production. The coil design also needed to incorporate the same ideologies to allow for better airflow.

Atomiser Core:
The Nimbus atomiser core uses a triple coil design, we went with this design as it is a proven coil design, and has some great vapour production without compromising the flavour production. At Twisp one of our concern is coils life, especially now that we are also increasing power requirements to higher levels. The atomiser head should last longer, not only in use, but also in terms of coil ‘transparency’, adding no colouration to the purity of the flavour delivery. Wicking and wicking hole size where also carefully considered before settling on the final design. We also tweaked the airflow intake to offer less resistance, and maximum contact area on the positive connection. All of which offers the perfect balance between airflow, wicking and power.

Nimbus Tank vs Nimbus AIO:
We opted for a 22 mm diameter 510 Tank for maximum compatibility, but increased the diameter to 24.5 mm on the AIO, for increased tank and battery capacity. We also enabled the tank to function intelligently with our Vega family of Mods — the Vega’s Smart Tank feature will be 100% compatible (please ensure you are running the newest firmware).

Innovation:
Top filling is not a new development, but for Twisp we worked very closely with our partners to develop an easy to operate filling system — hence the inverted 510 drip tip design, without which we one could not have achieved the easy one-handed slide operation or maintained the slim proportions of this tank. So unfortunately no custom drip tips on this one.

Our durable, physical vapour deposition coatings (PVD) were modified to be ultra-matte and coated with an oleophobic, anti-fingerprint coating for that extra high-power stealth look.

We also worked hard at designing another great design feature on the Nimbus AIO, a new ergonomic silicone Airflow Control (AFC) Ring that reduces part count and increases the reliability of the sealing ability, control and smooth operation of your AFC. We combined it with what we are calling a Vent Guideline - a fine, white, laser engraved line that helps you gauge how much of the vent is open or closed (especially useful in dim light).

Finally, and one of the highlights of the Nimbus AIO design, is that it makes use of our proprietary Smart Button, with it’s segmented LED light ring. This not only allows you to clearly view and understand your remaining battery capacity and charging indication - it can also be used for variable wattage selection. Taking the tank and slapping it on a battery would have been fine for many makes, but we want to innovate as much as possible. So we had the great idea of incorporating variable power output on our AIO via the Smart Button. This is a unique feature allows for the user to set the wattage output from 35 W to 55 W, this is done by simply interacting with the power button. 3 clicks puts you into power selection mode, subsequent single clicks set the power. We believe that this not only makes the Nimbus AIO uniquely Twispy, but uniquely great.

Please view our Product Overview posts for more information on what makes the Nimbus Tank and Nimbus AIO so uniquely great.
