Hi All,
It's been a while since I posted, but feel I need to voice my indignation as the deceit created by cigarette manufacturers continues unabated, and quite frankly ... I have had it with friggen disposables and the associated deceit ... Bring back some honesty ... Bring back Rebuildables and DIY.

When vaping first started, the intention was honest, and simple ... Give people a functional way to get off combustible tobacco. It was an industry built on harm reduction, mechanical optimization, and freedom. Instead, disposable manufacturers have completely hijacked that mission. Their clear intention is to get people even more deeply entrenched in an addiction than they ever were with cigarettes ... Hell, the Chinese banned them for their own consumption, and yet here we are ... the dumping ground for their @#$%

They achieve this through a brilliant, predatory piece of chemical engineering ... cloaking the nicotine, and at dangerously high levels of up to 50mg/ml ... They flood the liquid with massive amounts of benzoic acid to completely strip away the harshness, and because users cannot taste the nicotine at these massive levels, they inhale absurd payloads without their body's natural defense mechanisms such as coughing or throat irritation warning them. It is the same model Big Tobacco used for decades when they engineered cigarettes to hide the harshness of raw tobacco smoke.

To expose exactly how this chemical illusion works, I've mapped it out below, with a breakdown of how different configurations compare chemically and biologically, showing how pH manipulation is being used against us and how we can use it to take back control, and quit the addiction.

The Anatomy of the Deceit:
The 50mg/ml Disposable Trap: Pure Over-Saturation
If you tried to vape 50mg of standard freebase nicotine, its high alkalinity would rip your throat apart and make you choke because that is your body's natural baseline defense against an overdose. Disposable companies bypass this entirely by dropping extreme acid loads to force the pH down to an unnatural 5.0. This masks the caustic chemical burn, creating an unnaturally smooth inhale that entirely cloaks a payload driving blood nicotine levels to a staggering 50 ng/ml, which is way more than a strong cigarette, and because pure salt clears your system instantly, it causes a violent physical crash minutes later, trapping the brain in an endless rapid loop of compulsive chain-vaping.

The Cigarette Blueprint (Peter Stuyvesant Blue Benchmark / Baseline above)
Big Tobacco pioneered this chemical mask decades ago. They discovered that adding ammonia compounds allowed them to alter and lock the smoke at a pH of ~7.8, which is nicotine’s natural pKa threshold. This specific boundary splits the molecules perfectly 50/50 between freebase and salt. It delivers a heavy, satisfying chest "thud" without a caustic throat burn, maximizing addictive delivery straight to the brain in some 7 seconds.

Reclaiming Vaping's True Purpose: The 12mg Hybrid Solution
We can use this exact chemical data to beat them at their own game. By mixing a sensible 12mg/ml total strength using a manual 50/50 split of freebase and salts, you recreate that cigarette pKa threshold (~7.8 pH). This completely eliminates the harsh alkaline vape scratch of old-school 12mg freebase, replacing it with a satisfying, traditional cigarette "thud". The salt portion handles the fast-acting craving relief, while the freebase backbone stabilizes your blood nicotine levels, keeping you satisfied for over an hour and breaking the frantic chain-vaping cycle.

How to Mix the "Cigarette-Identical" 100ml Batch (12mg total strength)
For the DIYers looking to escape the high-strength disposable cycle, get back to true harm reduction, or clone a true cigarette satiety profile, here is the exact 100ml blueprint using standard 100mg/ml bases:
Freebase Nicotine (100mg/ml Base): 6.0 ml
Nicotine Salts (100mg/ml Base): 6.0 ml
Flavors + Nicotine-Free PG/VG Base: 88.0 ml
Total Final Volume: 100.0 ml
Note: Run this in a dedicated Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) pod or RTA between 12W and 18W to keep the vapor volume tight and precise, mimicking a cigarette draw.

Let's take vaping back to what it was actually invented for.
Keen to hear your thoughts, and whether anyone else is playing with hybrid ratios to step down ... and/or off dispo's.

Agree with you @Intuthu Kagesi

When I tried the nic salts, luckily it didn't do it for me because there was almost no throat hit.
That's what I crave.
So I've stuck on my rebuildables and freebase liquids.

Glad I did.

I'm down to about 10-12mg (from 18 or more) but I still like my menthol additive for some extra kick ;-)

Happily vaping - but worried about lack of spares etc.

Hey Ho Silver!

It's been a while, and I pray you are well, and; Methinks we're overdue for a coffee an' vape! :wave1:

I completely get what you mean about the throat hit. That classic freebase punch is exactly what's missing from the salt craze, and it's what keeps the old-school satisfaction alive. As to the dispo addicted, they can pop along to their local vape shop, (check out Sir Vapes specials on pods and a juice), and move to a pod before 'calming their farm' with DIY as I suggest.

As to your rebuildable kit ... Don't sweat too much about the lack of spares and odds and ends for your rebuildables, as thankfully, the main failure points, glass, O-rings, batteries and the screws are still freely available, and we can always keep your favourite gear running ;) ... Bring whatever needs looking at along when we meet up, and I'll gladly help you sort out any bits and pieces you need over that coffee.

Let me know when you're free to catch up!
