The wear and tear thread

Now we all love a new gadget, in our case a new mod or tank or RBA pod.

So they start off all new and shiny, but they will get wear and tear.

What peice of kit for you is wearing and tearing? I have a Jelly box that the fire button is wearing badly, although functional it does not look good

I have a GTRS GT150, battered and bruised and only makes an occasional appearance on my desk... but one of those that cannot be sold, pif'd or stripped for spares/vape project (yet)... also having an internal battery I might be holding on until she decides to join the land of deceased mods, then she'll be hacked for spares like a back alley chop shop...



As for the tanks... wear and tear gets met with a little spit and shine to restore them to their former glory!

The "leather" on the Drax X Plus (silver) and the Drag 3 (silver and blue) faded and stained quite quickly as well. A bit of a scrub with a cotton pad and some surgical spirits does clean and refresh it nicely, but I have not tested the extended exposure to faux leather and alcohol to see how it further damages it in the long run.

That rubbery feel on some mods (vapor storm puma/asmodus/aegis/qp fatal) is also prone to peel with liquid exposure and rubbing/holding it over time.

And let's not even get started with wear and tear on latch-type battery doors. I prefer a screw-in/slide/snap-on magnet battery door. (one of my criteria on buying new vape gear: if it's got a flippy flappy door it is off the list)

Hence the reason she only comes out of the basement on certain days, no flash photography allowed and only to drink water out of the longdrop... which she messes up on all accounts and gets ushered back into darkness again... but she is my ugly ogre and I love her!

Sometimes the sweat from our hands. Sometimes we touch something and transfere it to our mods like a cleaning cloth with cleaning agents. Sometimes the paint isn't made for the purpose and in most my cases its the type of work I do.

Time to remake that switch ... The Gen, S and X's fire buttons paint / plating wears off rather quickly, and it's easy enough to turn a new metal or Perspex one on a lathe. As for the finishes ... either strip to bare metal and buff em' or ... repaint, (even the rubberised coatings are available in rattle can from motor spares outlets), giving you the option of colour matching for the 'must match' amongst us

That is so fugly it's beautiful ... it NEEEEEEEEEEEEEDS to be stripped down to bare metal and buffed ... you may as well make it a fingerprint magnet too whilst you're about it

I've recond a few and had @Intuthu Kagesi perform open heart surgery on "Bruce" to keep him alive

If only about 3-4 years ago I knew about all these specialists with repairing things I might have saved some precious (at the time) loves of mine like the Smoant Charon. I really loved that mod, alas it did not last me all that long. Held on to it for about a year after it stopped working and then eventually let it go.

My Charon is back in rotation. Sad news about yours. They are great mods. Really heavy but with a great screen.

I dont have a pic but i had a minikin for about 3 years that been through the wars and all the rubber had come off and the metal was scratched and dented from being dropped so many times. it got pif'ed to a mate who needed to stop smokes and he had it for a year or so. the 510 came loose, then very loose, then fell out and he used it like that for about a month and it eventually gave up after his tank leaked and dumped juice all over the internals through the "missing" 510. I LOVED that mod!!!

Really? I'm specifically interested in the rubberized coating. I have a mod thay could do with a paint job. How does one prepare the surface prior to spraying? What is this spray paint called?

It's fairly popular amongst the petrolhead community, meaning you should find it at motor spares outlets such as; https://www.autostyle.co.za/product...or-car-accessories/liquid-vinyl-spray-paints/
Takealot also carries it https://www.takealot.com/black-mamba-spray-rubber-paint-400ml-red/PLID70629758 , and the surface preparation is the same as most paining, clean, lightly scuffed, (unless you want it removable? as some people want for a car wrap for example, in which case a release agent is required)
