I have a Linkbasic 22U 600 Deep Open Rack that I want to put a shelf on top of so that I can move my printer off of my desk. I contacted Chamberlains Hardware in Centurion to ask them to make me a black melamine board with edging, but they quoted close to R1.5k because I have to buy the whole sheet.

Where can I get a wooden shelf in black with dimensions of 470mm x 350mm at a reasonable cost? Doesn't have to be melamine specifically, but just something that would sort of match the look of the rack.

Leroy Merlin stock the Linkbasic shelves, (the ones that attach both front and rear), and if my memory serves me, they're about R300.
If it's just a black board that you're after, the I'd suggest popping into a hardware store that cuts wood, (I regularly use Discount Timber and Hardware in Edenvale), and have a piece of Superwood cut to size, which you'll then paint black, and will cost you under R100, (They only charge you for the wood you want as apposed an entire board).

1. Leroy Merlin

They carry Linkbasic-brand shelves that attach easily to racks and usually cost around R300

2. Local Timber & Hardware Shop

Visit a store like Discount Timber & Hardware (Edenvale) or any board cutter like HDS Group.

Ask for a cut-to-size piece of Superwood or MDF (not a whole sheet) in your desired size.

Then paint it black to match the rack.

Estimated cost: under R100

3. Industrial Pine Option

Stores like Aluminium Flanges sell industrial pine wood planks in custom lengths. You could order 470 mm × 350 mm, then paint them black.

Recommendation

If you want something rack-ready, go for the Leroy Merlin shelf.

If you're on a budget and don’t mind a DIY finish (Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo Intel Core i5 16GB RAM 512GB SSD 27 Inch 12SB0004UK Windows 11 Pro All-in-One PC), get a cut-to-size board (Superwood/MDF) from a timber shop and paint it—it’s the most cost-effective way.
