Introduction

I loved the Charon Mini and really thought until there is more innovation that comes along Smoant wouldn't be able to better it. The Naboo is slightly larger than the Charon Mini and has a larger colour screen but with 2 of the user interfaces being identical to the Mini at first glance that's exactly what you could be mistaken into thinking, it is just a bigger version of the mini. Indeed the Naboo keeps everything the Mini has but has many improvements, the first being subjective in the fact it has vibrating touch buttons which many including me will love. Other improvements see's the addition of a third interface called music mode, a physical lock button and full advantage has been taken of it's bigger size with the 510 plate now not raised on a platform. The Naboo kit see's the Mod paired with the Naboo Subohm Tank which has the looks and build quality as good as any $25 to $35 subohm tank in the market place, has dreamy smooth airflow and comes with 2 different mesh coils and all the spares. Sounds an expensive piece of kit but this is Smoant who gives very good value for money so let's give it a closer look.

Aesthetics and Ergonomics

The Naboo Kit comes in the normal cardboard box packaging and once opened you are met by a slightly larger and heavier than average dual 18650 device. The device is box shaped but has cut corners bevelled edging and slightly curved sides, the bevelled edging, curved sides and position of the fire button all help to make the device comfortable to hold and fire. I received the Rainbow version (which comes with matching Naboo Tank), the device is also available in Black, Stainless Steel and Red, all colours come with matching tank and look good in my opinion. The front of the device has Smoant branding central top and towards the bottom we have navigational touch buttons which are only visible when the device is turned on, most of the front is taken up by a very large coloured screen and the entire front has a protective panel. The back of the device has a multicoloured interlocking design which i find very aesthetically pleasing and "NaBoo" printed in White towards the bottom. One side of the device is featureless, the other has a large rectangular fire button towards the top, underneath the fire button we have a lock button. The bottom of the device has safety stamps and generous venting, moving to the top we have a central 510 plate with gold plated, spring loaded 510. As i would expect from Smoant the build quality is excellent and the finish seems very durable. The only thing that needs pointing out is it's one hell of a fingerprint magnet.

Naboo Subohm Tank Overview

While what are commonly known has kit tanks still appear from time to time in kits usually the tank included will be an already established tank or if a new tank one of good quality. Smoant are not known for Tanks but the Naboo isn't just a good standard but is the most aesthetically pleasing subohm tank i have seen and to go with it's looks although i will repeat this in the performance section it has the smoothest airflow i have witnessed with a subohm tank. The tank it'self on the face of it is standard, top-fill with top-cap that screws on and dual cyclops airflow with stoppers. All the threading is top-notch with resistance of airflow ring being just right, the 2 fill ports are massive so no worries about which bottles are suitable for filling it with. The drip tip is a 810 cobra style resin with o-ring (so you can use your own 810's but only those with fitted o-ring) and not the one shown in the manufacturer's pictures in this review, mine is multicoloured and looks gorgeous. I received the standard kit that has a 4ml bulge glass fitted, the spare glass is a straight glass with 2ml capacity. I understand why the spare is 2ml so the glass can be swapped over for the EU but this tank is quite thirsty so a capacity of about 5.5ml (which seems quite common) would of been better with the bulge glass. In the kit there is 2 different mesh coils included, the pre-installed coil is 0.18ohm rated between 40w and 80w, the other coil is 0.17 rated between 60w and 100w. Finally Smoant have thrown a curve ball making the Naboo tank compatible with TFV12 Prince coils which is a great move.

The Display

The screen on the Naboo is 2.4" so more like a smartphone screen rather than a vaping device, a screen so big could look stupid but Smoant have done a great job with all the user interfaces and app like menu system takes full advantage of all that real estate.
The device allows you to have 3 different styles of main screen, Style one is a speedometer which is very nice and the needle moves as you vape. Style two is where you can choose to have wallpaper, there are 9 different ones to choose. You can also upload your own to the device to take the place of any of the 9 slots so you can have the crest of your football team, rock band logo, pet or picture of a loved one etc as your background. Style three is music mode which is a graphical sound equaliser which takes advantage of the the large colourful screen and in my opinion looks great and is constantly changing as it reacts to sounds. All three styles give you the same information it's just how it is presented changes to suit the style of display you have opted for. Their is also two choices of screensaver which the screen switches to after a period of inactivity (you can set how many seconds), first their is a very nice busy steampunk style clock face and the second is to have the chosen wallpaper. These settings are mix and match, it doesn't matter what style you use for your main screen you can choose watch or wallpaper as your screensaver. The display is top notch with everything sharp and crystal clear also the pictures are high quality.

Using the Naboo

To fit the batteries you need to remove the back of the Naboo which can be done by using your fingernail in a notch at the base of the device. The battery compartment has clear orientation printed in White, once the batteries are in place the back can be put back on, it snaps in place secured by very strong magnets (i have to be picky to find any fault with this kit so wil point out my magnets had a bit of paint on them not that it matters hidden under the battery panel). The menu system is almost app style in nature which allows for the device to have a lot going on yet keeping it simple and quick to navigate around. To turn the device on and off is the usual 5 clicks and to enter the menu system is 3 clicks. The menu screen displays four icons, VW, TC, Settings and Wallpapers. Sometimes choosing something in the menu system takes you straight back to your main screen but with that item now selected, for example if when in the VW menu i choose normal it takes me back to the main screen but norm is now activated. When in wattage mode pressing the left and right touch buttons together locks the device but it will still fire. In the temp control menu when you select your wire type it again takes you back to the main screen but now the display is temperature rather than wattage. When you are in a temp control mode pressing the left and right buttons together locks the resistance and right and fire together allows you to alter the wattage. If whatever you choose in the menu system doesn't take you back to the main screen which is usually when choosing something gives you further options then holding down the fire button takes you back to the previous screen. All navigation in the menu is done by using the left and right touch buttons which vibrate when being pressed (unless you set vibrate to off) with the fire button being select. Back to the menu, if you select VW icon it gives you choices of min, norm, max or custom curve. Selecting TC gives you your various wires, TCR and temperature curve. Choosing settings allows you to adjust the brightness, the time, which of the three modes you want, Screen timeout or Screensaver mode (watch face or picture), factory reset and vibrate settings (on or off). Finally choosing Wallpapers gives you nine very nice pictures to choose from. The menu system is very well done and aesthetically pleasing.

The Lock Button

When i went through the menu system you will notice that in wattage mode pressing the left and right touch buttons at the same time locks the device but it will still fire, the touch buttons which are clearly visible by having lit up swirls where you press are still visible but when locked in this way nothing happens when pressing them until you press them both at the same time again to unlock. To be honest when changing the software from the Charon Mini to the Naboo i get the impression this way of locking the device has been left by accident not that it matters as it gives another way of locking the buttons and doesn't do any harm still having the feature present. The much simpler way of locking the device is by simply pressing the lock button which is positioned below the fire button. When you lock the buttons this way they also become invisible (the swirls are no longer lit). Although the touch buttons no longer activate until you press the lock button again to unlock them the device will still fire. You can also long press the lock button this also turns the screen off altogether but again the device will fire, by giving the lock button another long press the screen turns back on and the device is completely unlocked.

Performance

When i reviewed the Charon Mini i had nothing put praise for it's performance, so it was no surprise to me how well the Naboo performs using the updated 225 Ant chip, i just can't fault it. The Naboo fires instantly with instant ramp up, wattage seems very accurate and despite being quite heavy and slightly larger than the average dual 18650 device it feels very comfortable to use. How close it gets to the 225 claimed wattage i have no idea, as i don't have access to data i also don't vape in temp control so i simply review devices as a personal experience. Although i doubt it will do 225W i would expect it to get closer than a lot of other dual 18650 devices claiming similar wattage. I own other Smoant products including a couple i bought because i find they out perform some more expensive devices, with Smoant you get quality at a reasonable price. I particularly like the custom curves on this device, they are done very well and having the 3 different interfaces is a big pro, the music mode interface in my opinion looks stunning and isn't just moving randomly but indeed is reacting to sound. The Ant 225 chip is very efficient and battery life seems slightly better than most other dual 18650 devices despite the colourful display. Unlike the Charon Mini which saw 26mm tanks overhang the raised platform getting rid of the platform on the Naboo means 26mm tanks look great with no overhang whatsoever. The Naboo supports balanced 1.5A charging and is fully firmware upgradable.
The Naboo tank also impressed me it has the smoothest airflow i have come across on a subohm tank and the flavour from the mesh coil i used was above average and found i didn't need to throw wattage at it, it also seemed thirsty so a bit more capacity would be an improvement. I used the 0.18ohm mesh coil which i found perfect at 50w, despite it's rating of between 40 and 80w, being able to accommodate TFV Prince coils is another big pro.

Final Thoughts

I don't review every device that gets released so there could be some gems out there but i do review a fair few. I also don't do temp control or have access to charts so my reviews are down to personal experience but the Naboo has just toppled The Vaporesso Luxe has my favourite device of 2018 and the Naboo Kit the best kit (again toppling the Luxe Kit) of 2018.

Cons

A bit more capacity with largest glass would be better.
Fingerprint magnet.
It's not the smallest of dual 18650 devices and has a bit of weight to it which will be cons to some but other than that i'm struggling.

I would once again like to thank Kristy from Smoant for supplying the Smoant Naboo 225W TC Kit with Naboo Tank for the purpose of this review.

I am eagerly awaiting mine to land after reading this review.
Thanks @Timwis great review
I have no idea how smooth temp control is (to be honest i couldn't give a flyin) but i believe Smoant devices actually are pretty good with temp control. Their devices have always been efficient but needed to be because they use to have quite a high cut off but that was all sorted back with the cylon and they cutout at 3.2v so better than average battery life with that efficiency. If you like having a play there's just about every feature i can think of on this device and the touch buttons are very responsive no having to press them 2 or 3 times to registar.

When I recieve it I will do some experimenting. I like to know how things work and will definitely explore the mod to its fullest.
Awesome review still im exitexited now
