The Cumulus tank has been out now for a while to the delight and enjoyment of many. Our biggest and most powerful tank and latest addition to the Orange by Twisp range. The Cumulus represents the last stop in the 2017 Journey for Direct Inhale users looking for our top performer in terms of Power and Airflow.
CUMULUS DESIGN:
The Tank design makes use of the striking contrast between hard, polished glass and soft, matte silicone; making the Cumulus feel premium and its simple lines and transparent nature give it the typical modern Twisp look. The Cumulus is remarkably refined for a high power tank. It provides a smooth, flavourful vape without compromising on big vapour. The design of the Cumulus echoes that of a traditional dripper, a simple deck, with short, stubby top cap. We recognise the community’s love of drippers and wanted to offer our clients a dripper with the convenience of a Twisp coil system.
The simple, squat tank is a perfect compromise to a dripper. Great free flow airflow with direct access to the coil intake simplifies the tank to three components:
Airflow:
Adjustable airflow with the soft touch silicone band will never allow for a MTL experience, the Cumulus is an unashamed STL tank. The addition of the Vent Highlight line is a small detail that helps to show the AFC’s status. The line is such a simple detail, but it works perfectly. The AFC ring itself is also a feature that we are proud of, as it is a silicon rubber it forms a perfect seal with the body further helping in refining the perfect airflow control. (this design element was brought over to the Nimbus AIO for the same reason).
With STL vaping (Straight to Lung) you require larger volumes of airflow to help cool down the lower resistance coils, and to transport a larger volume of vapour production.
The coil design developed the ideals that we brought into the Nimbus tank….and scaled it up.
Adressing thermal performace:
The [Nimbus atomiser core] used a triple stacked coil design, with the Cumulus we kept the design similar but increased the inner diameter core to facilitate for even more airflow through the coil.
The 0.4Ω coil is housed in a thick and heavy solid metal coil body construction which provides thermal stability. This makes for more stable vaporizing performance without overheating and produces smoother flavour. The glass tank body further helps with thermal management: glass is a poor conductor which insulates against the heat generated by the coil so that the tank stays cool to the touch and comfortable to vape while trapping heat in the tank and dispersing it more gradually. This also aids wicking and vape efficiency. We explored many options for coil design, like the popular trend of an army of quad, triple and dual coil cores seen in other manufacturers, but we found the Cumulus worked best with a single, large coil.
With the larger coil body, at 0.4Ω we noted that for best performance and sanity, 40-50 W is perfect - even though the coil can be pushed to 80 W.
The Cumulus Tank is a beastly tank that comes dressed in a Twisp tuxedo of reserved design aesthetics which ensures it will have wide spectrum appeal.
