TBH, I have typically stayed AWAY from reviewing Pods, or Pod Systems. The two exceptions being the Yihi SXmini PureMax, and PureMax 2, as a disclaimer. I'm not sure if it was my dislike for filling up landfills with spent equipment, fears of lackluster performance, leaking, or specialized pods that quickly went extinct, but I had just not really wanted to review any. To date, I have turned down countless review requests, and beyond the Yihi's mentioned above, breaking new ground here.

Well, hehe, guess what ?? I was shopping around for a new platform for my wife's MTL (and possibly my own), and started researching, and I found quite a bit of positive reactions to the Caliburn lineup. I picked up 2 of the G4 Pro's along with a couple of different ohmed Pods. All of my Pods (both included, and extras) were the newer GPP, 3ml Side Fill Pods, as opposed to some of the older Top Fill and/or smaller Pods. Time to Buckle Up, because we're all doing it together, so let's get into it !!!!!

Testing/Usage:

Coming firmly from the "Not Pods" camp, I have to say, I was VERY impressed by the G4 Pro, and the GPP Pods. First things first, the flavor was VERY good, and FAR better than I had expected. Fruits, bakeries, and even custards fared very well. As far as flavor production, fruits topped the scale, with bakeries slightly less, but still very good, and custards rounding it out, where believe it or not, most of the deep creamy buttery-ness actually translated. Maybe not 100% as good as our DTL rebuildable sub-ohms, but, hehe, it is close enough. The side fill was stupid easy, and required NO effort, pod removal, or special steps, just open, fill, close. After over 25 pod refills, I have yet to have a single gurgle, pop, or leak. I not only left the pod/mod on it's side overnight, but upside down when charging, and NO LEAKS. Pulled the pod after every re-fill (not required), just to check for any seepage onto the contacts, NONE.

Power adjustments were minimal but worked, and I left it on Storm through my tests. 35 watts seemed a smidge too toasty on the 0.4 ohm cils, and I ran it at 30 watts for all of my 0.4 ohms tests, and ramped it down across the 0.9, and 1.2 ohms where I think I settled on 8-10 watts for MTL. The coils actual restriction did increase somewhat when moving up in the ohm ratings with the 1.2 ohm being the most restricted, which when used in conjunction with the adjustable airflow slider, worked very good for both DTL, and MTL. The fact that the Pods o-rings were color coded just made swapping around even easier. The display remained easy to see, and the UI easy to use, and once dialed in, I basically set it and forgot it. With NO fire button (the button on the side wakes the unit, and (powers up/down). The draw firing worked flawlessly, with no mis-firing. The touch screen while small did actually work pretty good, with only a few mis swipes.

Pros:

* Good Flavor Reproduction
* GPP Pods Used in 11 different models, should stay available
* Smart Looking
* Side Fill
* Bright easy to see and use Display/UI
* Different pod ohm ratings for different needs
* Adjustable power curves (very basic)
* Quick 2.5A USB-C charging
* NO LEAKING
* Touchscreen
* Pod o-rings color coded per ohm rating
* GPP Pods last very long time

Cons:

* 3 Locked Themes (unlocked based on puff count) ??
* 3 Power Curves fairly basic only
* Battery Life Fair in Normal Mode, Improves with Battery Saver
* Small touchscreen, occasional mis-swipes
* Bigger than some slim mini pods (con ??)

Conclusion:

Well dammit, I went into this expecting to be let down, or at least unimpressed, but I came out of this, fairly impressed. Flavor reproduction was very good, and across Fruits, Bakeries, and Custards. While covering RDTL through MTL, the RDTL was still slightly restricted, even with the 0.4 ohm pods, but it still worked good enough for an all day affair in RDTL. MTL was good as well, with the 1.2 ohm pods and backing the airflow slider adjustment off a bit for a good MTL experience. I literally torture tested the pods with sweet juices, including sour/tart as malic acid and sweeteners are coil killers, but as of this writing, I still have NOT thrown out a single Pod. NO, no, NO leaks of any kind. On it's side, upside down, didn't matter, ZERO (including any seepage beneath the Pod into the Mod), ZERO. Loved the fact, that the 3ml GPP Pods were all side fill, which required NO removal of the Pods, just open, fill, close, done. Battery life was pretty good in regular mode, but the battery saver mode helped boost it up some more. Quick charging, easy to read display, and only minor issues with the small 2.51" touchscreen with occasional swiping errors, or mis-swipes, but it was fully functional. The screen auto locked flawlessly, as did the draw firing, with no complaints. Every time a Pod was removed or inserted, the Pod ohms were displayed along with wattage rec's, and a nice haptic pulse.

All in, a damned fine showing from UWELL, and that's coming from the NOT Pod Guy at that. I guess my biggest WTF, was/were the 3 locked themes that required 5k, 10k, and 20k puffs to unlock. Not a deal breaker, but made my brain hurt LOL.

If you are looking for a very good, and tasty RDTL, or MTL with long lasting Pods, which come in 4 different ohm ratings, depending on your needs, the UWELL Caliburn Pro 4 would work for you. Easy to use, no leaks, portable, with a touchscreen and draw firing, it really covered all of the must haves. Not state of the art, and the power curves were fairly basic, but still, for the price, it's going to be hard to beat.

Thanks for sharing some of your free time, and scrolling ALL the way down here. I appreciate it.

S.D.
