Show us your Builds - User Made Tank Coils (Protanks, Nautilus Etc.)

I justbdid this, 2mm coil through a 2.5mm hole. 26G, I think 8/wraps at 0.9ohm. Wow! Can see this saving me some cash in the long run since I use the mAN in the car everyday. Thanks for the post

Gave a nautilus mini coil a go the other day, 26g kanthal about 9 wraps 2mm dia, came in at 0.8ohms wicked with rayon. Was a bit of a battle to get it to fit but eventually got it right. The only problem with the ohms coming in so low is that it is on the limit of what my MVP 2.0 can fire so the ramp up is slow but once it gets going, I was really surprised by the clouds. Flavour was ok but I was using an already subtle flavoured juice. On my BT50 with more power it does a lot better, but needs more tweaking.

Want to get some 30g to give it another go and rather wick with KDJ for some more flavour.

The Atlantis on the other is far easier the recoil and wick. I found making the coil bigger than the wicking holes works the best, then making the wick fairly tight and trimming it tight on the coil body. Flavour is great and it doesn't leak. Only issue I have found is after a day or two on the same wick without cleaning the coil it starts spitting on 50/50 juices, but a good clean and new wick sorts that out.

Will post some pics tomorrow

24G Kanthal cut to length about 150mm long, cleaned and stripped coil.

About 7 wraps, not one leg longer than the other so I can keep tabs on which is + and which is -

Used a 2mm mandrel to hold the coil inside (coil has 3mm I/D)

Rubber grommet back in and respective legs bent out one touching the body and the other isolated by the grommet

Testing coil inside atomiser to see what it comes out at and that there are no shorts

Glows beautifully, nice and even the whole through, not hot or cold spots

Some Jap cotton, timed and ready to be fed in. I find removing the very top layer makes it thin enough to just get through the hole. Roll one of the ends tightly and feed through wicking hole into coil and out the other side. Keep it fairly tight through the wicking holes, bearing in mind the coil has a 3mm I/D so the wick wont be overly tight inside the coil.

Wick fed though and fluffed up

Ends trimmed off nice and close, you could probably get is closer with a pair of nail clippers, but find this works perfectly

Drip a few drops on the wicking material and coil before inserting it into the tank to help prime the coil, then put a little juice in the tank and prime it with the airholes tightly closed, check for leaks and gurgling. Once that is done and all is good, fill the tank with your juice of choice.

Vapes like a boss, big clouds and great flavour.

I find the wicking can last up to 4 days, but after that flavour and vape quality start to diminish.

Took it up to 30watts and no dry hits, at 35watts I start to get dry hits after a few vapes, but this is way higher than what I normally vape at. Could possibly tweak wicking slightly looser.

Been using the same coil body for about 3 weeks and the rubber grommet is still in decent condition, just be careful when dry burning not to run the coil too hot, and blow it off between burns to help cool everything down quicker.

Side note: after about 2-3days on the same wicking I find I get spitting on 50/50 juices, but high vg have no problem. If you notice I left the mesh screen in even though some people suggest against it. When fitting your coil, keep it as low as possible in the body, this will help allow a gap for the mesh screen so it doesn't cause shorts.

Enjoy!

Do you not get any flooding with the other two holes not plugged?

Not that I noticed, the bottom of the atty was a bit wet this evening but that was after 3 days of vaping so could also be condensation.

On one of the builds where I was testing the wicking and tried the less is principle I got flooding after a few drags.

So I decided to play around a bit today, made a Clapton 24g core 30g wind, 4-5 wraps, came out at 0,5ohms in an Atlantis coil. Works like a bomb, very hot Vape and a bit of ramp up time at 30watts. Definitely not for daily use as it will fly through batteries. Excellent flavour from it!
