Currently been using a Vaporesso Luxe XR max with a .2Ohm coil @55W. Just can’t get a feel for some of the flavour with my juice.

I’m also running through coils and getting very costly. I’m looking for a more hands on DIY approach in building my coils and wicking.

I’ve heard RDA/RDTA or RTA is the way to go.
Looked into a RDA with Squonk but seems you can’t purchase a Squonk “new” in South Africa unless someone knows of a website please share.

For RDTA looked at the Wotofo Profile which would be nice to also have a Squonk device switching between RDTA or RDA. If I should stick with RDTA which device would with a dual coil build?

RTA not really sure.

Accepting any advice

hi there is a Fuchai squonk with Nitrous RDA in the classifieds,

good choice going RDA, I only use RDA's, can't go wrong

there are also some in the PIF Box

all the best

The Vapery has a few squonk mods, ranging from R300 and up, else Vapers Corner has a more high-end one for R1700. Personally I prefer a RDA on a squonk mod, though I have not squonked in a long while, so I cannot comment which one.

You're not alone in feeling that pang when flavour’s flat and coils vanish faster than your paycheck. But don’t worry, you're knocking on the right barn door.

Time to Ditch Stock Coils and Go Full DIY

You're on the right path with RDAs, RTAs, and RDTAs. Let’s break it down real quick, Goat-style:

RDA (Drippers)

If you want flavour and don’t mind dripping (or squonking, if you can find a mod for it), this is your jam.

  • Blaze RDA – Absolute banger. Smooth airflow, flavour for days, easy to build.
  • Dead Rabbit V2 – Still floating around SA, super easy to build on, decent flavour, great starter RDA.

Bonus tip: If you're open to squonking, second-hand squonk mods do pop up. You’ve just got to keep your eyes peeled.

RTA (Tanks)

If you're done dripping and want a tank, RTAs are trickier to wick but once you nail it, it’s vape heaven.

  • Blaze Dual RTA – Same family as the RDA, and it’s just as good. One of the easiest dual coil RTAs out there.
  • Dead Rabbit RTA – Also solid. Not quite the same performance, but still very usable and widely available.

RDTA (Hybrid)

These are like drippers with a mini tank underneath.

  • Wotofo Profile RDTA is a solid choice, but works best with mesh. It can be set up with coils, but it can be fussy to wick and isn't my go-to for dual coil builds.

If you’re ready to roll your own, I highly recommend it. Once you get a feel for it, you’ll save money, improve flavour, and have way more control over your vape. You’ll need to learn a bit about ohms, battery safety, and wicking — but that’s what we’re here for.

And hey, if you want help setting up the perfect build, feel free to DM me. I’ll walk you through it — no gatekeeping, no snobbery, just solid advice from an Old Goat who’s burned his fair share of wicks.
